History

Eglise Chretienne Evangelique des Moulins is a French open brethren assembly, located on Ile St-Jean on the north shore, across the Saint Lawrence from the island of Montréal. An outgrowth of the work of La Grande Maison, it began in September 1982, some twenty-five adults being present at the first meeting. In the beginning, it met at various locations until moving into a newly-constructed, two-hundred-seat facility in early December of 1986. By that time, attendance, including children, ranged between 160 to 185 persons. Originally known as Assemblée chrétienne de Terrebonne, the name was changed to Assemblée chrétienne LAMATER and in 2008/9 to its present designation.

While a number of believers were involved in its beginnings, the names of Tom Paul and his wife Sylvia stand at the head of the list. Coming to Québec in 1977, Tom and Sylvia applied themselves to mastering the language and were soon absorbed in the French work. They gave of themselves unstintingly until 1992 when they moved on to Westview Bible Church at Pierrefonds on the island of Montréal. Sylvia was called home to be with the Lord in June 1999; Tom eventually returned to the United States.

In the meantime, the work carried on. Gerry Kraemer, accompanied by his wife Katherine, provided leadership throughout the nineties and well into the new century until launching out in 2011 on an itinerant ministry of marriage counselling for Christian couples. By then, François Boudreau and his family of five had arrived to serve the assembly as full-time workers until their departure in 2018. Luc Tousignant replaced them in the leadership.
