In 1930, Frank lived in Santa Barbara with his parents, employed as a commercial artist. In 1950 in Santa Barbara he owned a medical lab where Beryl worked. Parents: George P. Birtwhistle (b. 1862 Chester, Ches, Eng. - d. 1931 Ladner, B.C.) & Mary Edith Todhunter Birtwhistle (b. 1866 Liverpool, Eng. - d. 1935 Woodland, Yolo, CA). George Birtwhistle was a technical teacher in Los Angeles, then the first teacher at the T.J. Trapp technical school. Frank's brother was George Birtwhistle, Jr. (Winnipeg, MB).

Peterson & H.A. Keith were two of his bank clerk coworkers who vouched for his petition to be naturalized as a citizen. John spent his final years living at Menlo Park, and died on June 16, 1960 at Redwood City, [[California]]. E. Sheritt of Oakland, credited in John's obit as the "standing pastor of the Plymouth Brethren Church" officiated the memorial service. Besides John & Dorothy's four sons and four daughters, surviving in 1960 were 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
