===Birth===
George McCulloch Landis was born August 7, 1891 to Joseph Henry G. Landis and Blanche McCulloch Landis.  He had one older brother, <span style="font-size: 0.939em;">Frederick McCulloch Landis (b. 1884) married Mary Gray.  He also had a twin brother, Joseph Fretz Landis, married Beulah Ambrose.  Joseph worked as a schoolteacher in Cleveland, Ohio.   </span>

===Marriage===
On August 14, 1919 he married Nora Clyde Walsh.  Nora was born September 25, 1889 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, her parents were John H. Walsh (b. 1839) and Nora  Thornton Walsh (b. 1846), farmers, and married in 1867.  Her parents were raised in New York, and were Congregationalist.  Nora Clyde had three elder siblings:  Ellen B. Walsh Gordon (b. 1874), Thorton W. Walsh (b. 1875), and George R. Walsh (b. 1880).  Nora graduated from Westfield State Teachers' College in 1910 and taught in the Normal School Department of Juniata, where she met George.  She also taught in public schools of Connecticut. 

Nora was saved in her teen years, and active with women's missionary and Bible classes in the Baptist churches of Marion, Ohio and New Castle, PA where George pastored. 

===Assembly Intro===
A growing knowledge of assembly truth and conviction by the Holy Spirit led the couple to settle near Greenwood Hills, Fayetteville, PA in 1932 where they worked and enjoyed fellowship with the small, newly-established assembly there, and were increasingly busy with the affairs of the Greenwood Hills Bible Conference.

====Nora Landis' assembly contributions and character====
Mrs. Landis was the director of the Greenwood Hills Girls Camp for its first ten years (at the same time not neglecting her home with four small children and caring for George's invalid mother). She served also at Bristol, New Hampshire, as director of the first [[Camp Berea, NH]] Girls Camp in 1945.

Mrs. Landis was one who followed literally the admonition "Be not weary in well-doing", and scores of the Lord's people, young and old, can testify to her understanding, her devoted teaching of God's word, and her ready hospitality. In the Landis' home there was always "room for one more", and Mrs. Landis could somehow always find time to be alone with the child who needed her.

With a generous sympathy, which could nonetheless be stern when the occasion warranted it, she instilled rigid standards of rectitude and a horror of slackness in anything attempted. Her devotion to the Lord's service and to His people, plus her intense love of all forms of nature whether flowers, birds and animals, and her abiding interest in good books was kindled not only in her own four children and in the two foster children they reared, but also in the many others who knew and loved "Lanny".

Peter Pell spoke at her funeral in 1967 convincingly and joyously on "Death Is Yours" (1 Cor. 3:22). Mrs. Landis, ill with cancer for two years, had endured seven operations and seven radiotherapy treatments. Throughout her increasingly painful days and nights, her sturdy faith in Christ sustained and comforted both her and her family. She had frequent resort to "songs in the night" and maintained an attitude of prayer. Her solace in and her dependency on her Shepherd who cared was of definite profit and inspiration to all who came in contact with her, bringing members of the family closer to the Lord and to one another.

===Children===
They had four children:

* Ruth McCulloch Landis (b. February 14, 1922)  married Harold E. Bushman, living (1967) in Orrtanna, PA;
* John Thornton Landis (b. January 25, 1924) married Jean L. Acken, living (1967) in Drexel Hill, PA;
* Grace Radcliff Landis (b. July 10, 1925) married Nevin E. Blair, living (1967) in Silver Spring, MD;
* Miriam Louise Landis (b. May 16, 1928) married Samuel Woodring, living (1967) in North Augusta, SC;

And two foster children:

* Mr. Gilson Samuel Kendall (1912-1993) living in 1967 in Fayetteville, PA, died in Chambersburg. Son of Samuel Luther Kendall (1875-1951) and Macie Carbaugh Kendall (1880-1949). Gilson married Ethel May Shockey (1917-1992), and they had at least two children: Adelia (b. 1937), Edna A. Kendall Marshall (1937-2007).
* Mrs. Jack McGonicle living (1967) in New Castle, PA
