Love Manifested By Giving by the Editor
Where there is genuine LOVE it is always accompanied by sacrificial GIVING. Notice how this fact is set forth in the Word. GOD THE FATHER LOVED AND GAVE.
Consider that great verse, John 3:16: “For God SO LOVED the world that HE GAVE His only begotten Son,” etc.
CHRIST THE SON LOVED AND GAVE.
“The Son of God LOVED ME, and GAVE HIMSELF FOR ME.” Gal. 2:20.
“Christ LOVED the Church, and GAVE Himself for it,” Eph. 5:25.
Now we rejoice in the love that led God to give His Son, and in the love that led our Lord Jesus to the cross to die for us. What real love was manifested at the cross! It meant much to the Father and the Son to provide salvation for us. The cross is not a cold idea.
Back of it and in it is real love; love stronger than death; love that many waters could not quench; love that manifested itself not in mere emotion or words or theatrical display; no indeed. Love found its strongest and truest and most helpful expression at the cross.
There the Son of God willingly died to meet God's claims and to make provision for the salvation of guilty sinners. There love was tried to the utmost; for Satan seemed to triumph over the Son of God. There even “His own dear disciples forsook Him, and fled”; there Christ cried out the sad words, “My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me ?”
“Herein is Love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:12.
WE SHOULD PROVE THE REALITY OF OUR LOVE
No wonder that Count Zinzendorf when gazing upon a picture of the Lord hanging upon the cross was arrested by the words written underneath the picture: “ALL THIS I HAVE DONE FOR THEE: WHAT HAST THOU DONE FOR ME?”
Nothing hindered God from giving, simply because LOVE moved Him to give. Where there is real love there must be an expression of it; for Love when genuine leads to giving. Now beloved saints since “The love o1 God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost” (Rom. 5:5) are we manifesting love? DO WE GIVE? Here is a great and growing need... viz, the need of spreading the gospel in the homelands.
If we sincerely love the Lord (and remember on this very point what scriptures says: “If any man love not the Lord Jesus let him he Anathema Maranatha" (1 Cor. 16:22) we shall love those for whom Christ died, and shall do our utmost by giving in order that the greatest story of love may be widely scattered in the homelands. If we really love the Lord and precious souls we shall be imitators of God; and we shall prove our love by giving.
