Rue Johnston was a printer and publisher based in St. Louis, MO, dba M.R. Johnston Co., affiliated with the Grant exclusives. He was born Nov. 2, 1891 in Alexandria, Minnesota, and died June 6, 1974 in San Diego, California. In 1900, the family lived at Leven, Pope, MN.

  • Robert E. Johnston (b. 1859 Culross, Bruce, ON - d. 1937 Villard, Pope, MN). In 1861, his family was Presbyterian. At some point, he and Minnie joined the Grant EB as did all their children.
  • Minnie Viola Rue Johnston (b. 1868 Scandia, Stevens, MN - d. 1970 Villard, MN)

  • Clinton Eugene Johnston (b. 1887 Lowry, Pope, MN - d. 1972 Beloit, WI); Clinton was president of Graphics Arts Industry, Inc. in Minneapolis, then in 1951 he came to Beloit as production manager for the former Daily News Publishing Co., and later served as its business manager until retiring in 1966. He was a charter member of the Ambassador's Club of the Greater Beloit Association of Commerce, and in January of 1972, he was named ambassador of the year. He suffered a heart attack after a minor collision.

At the age of 18, on Nov. 17, 1862 he enlisted for the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Mounted Rangers) Cavalry, at High Forest, Olmsted Co., on the Union side during the Civil War. He mustered out on Dec. 3, 1863, remaining a Private. In 1890, he was living at Glenwood, Pope, MN.
  • Matilda Smith Rue (b. 1846 Blanchard, Perth, ON - d. 1896 Fitzgerald, GA). In 1861, she lived at St. Mary's, Perth, ON and was registered Presbyterian.
