Sligh operated 1880-1932. For two years in the mid 1890’s, following an economic depression, Sligh also manufactured bicycles, before merging that with the Hamilton-Kenwood Cycle Co. During WWI, Sligh Furniture Co. made walnut gun stocks for the military.
The founder, Charles R. Sligh, was a founding member of the Furniture Man. Assoc. of Grand Rapids, and was elected to the state senate in 1924. In the 1920’s, it billed itself as the “largest manufacturer of furniture exclusively for the bedroom in the world”, offering more the 80 different bedroom suites, and 11 dining room suites. In 1933, it was rebranded as “Charles R. Sligh Co.” and still operates. Also founded Ply-Curves, Inc., and Trend Clock Co.
