Waco Bible Chapel began in the late 1940s in the home of John and Judy Lane on Mockingbird Lane. Within a few years, the Christians were able to buy property and build a chapel at 3300 N. 22nd Street, at which time they took their name. Several visiting preachers assisted in the earliest days of the assembly in the late 1940's and early 1950's.

Leaders have been John Lane, Howard Kohrmann, John Fullerton, Don Welborn, and Glenn Lightfoot. In its earlier years, Waco Bible Chapel commended several to the Lord’s work, including Don Welborn to ministry in the U.S. They also operated a community food bank, "Loaves & Fishes of Waco" at the chapel on Tuesdays and Fridays 10am to 12pm. In the 1990's, the meeting had about 15 adults in fellowship. The assembly closed in 2014.

• Howard Kohrmann, Colonial Hills Bible Chapel (Houston, Texas) and Waco (Texas) Bible Chapel. Howard has been active in various aspects of Christian service for many years. He helped plant the commending assembly in Houston and has also been involved in camp work in Texas and Colorado. Having retired from secular employment, he is now giving his full time to the Lord's work, primarily in Waco. (LOI 1986-5)

  • "The meetings at Erlen Chapel, Philadelphia and Maplewood Hall, St. Louis, were blessed of God. The Lord's people were helped and the unsaved heard the old, old story. At Houston, Texas the Lord spoke to His people. Suitable words were given by R. Halliday, William Pell, George Rainey, Kenneth Baird, the Hunt brothers, and others. The meetings at Dallas were encouraging. I will go with Bro. Davis to Waco, and we shall give ministry there and at Dallas until the 20th.   • "Bro. Schwartz recently had meetings in Oklahoma City, Fort Worth and Waco, with encouragement. In Waco, Bro. Kessler and he were together for some nights. A woman who came for the first time after two years of solicitation was saved, and since then four of her family have professed faith. The little assembly is much encouraged." (LOI 1953-12)

1954

• "Last month in a report on Waco, Texas given by F.W. Schwartz stated that five from one family were saved. Now we can report that seven from that same family are saved and in happy fellowship with the Lord and His people.   • "T.R. McCullagh and I have just concluded a series of Gospel meetings in Waco, TX, where the Lord came in and saved several souls. The meetings were held in the new building. The warmth and love of the Christians in Waco for the Lord and the souls of the lost is most refreshing.
  • From Waco, I went down to Palestine, TX, about 100 miles from Waco.  Stan Hanna moved here about a year ago to help the small testimony for awhile. This has been no easy task. While Palestine may be one of the oldest works in Texas, it is today, in another sense, one of the youngest... for it is a rebuilding process and by no means easy. Bro.   • "Had four nights meetings in Longview, one night at Golden, and two weeks at Waco, TX in February. Had the joy of seeing a number receive Christ as Savior. Came home to get some needed work done as I thought, but instead was flat on my back a week. However, the Lord raised me up and I went to Dallas, March 21 for two weeks meetings and the conference. 1965

• Abe Hartsema, Muskegon, Michigan:
  • "We spent the month of February in Wisconsin with nightly meetings in Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Casco, Green Bay, and Appleton. Even though the weather was extremely cold with plenty of snow and ice, it was most encouraging to see the saints come night after night. Some brought unsaved friends with them to hear the Gospel. We will be leaving soon for Gallion, Alabama, and Waco, Texas. Then to Dallas for Easter. Appreciate prayer." (LaL 1965-3)

  • "On the way to California we stopped to have a few meetings in Springfield, Illinois; Dallas, Waco, El Paso, Kingman, Pomona, Valinda (West Covina) and Riverside. We had intended to visit a number of assemblies on the west coast but my wife was stricken with a heart attack and has been in intensive care in a West Covina hospital. All meetings have been cancelled and I'm remaining close to her bedside. She is now improving for which we are most grateful. The Lord and the Lord's people have been most faithful."
