Oakland Gospel Hall was founded ca. 1887, and met at 475 Sixth Street in Oakland (presently at or near the Oakland Police Station) as an open brethren assembly, possibly by Donald Ross. By 1893, there was a separate assembly meeting at Brush & Seventh Sts., as well as one at 1064 Market St. by 1900, and 453 Eighth St. by 1902.

By 1904, there were two assemblies listed in the address book, the Gospel Hall at 1607 W. Seventh, with correspondent of John McIntyre, who was one of the first baptized in Oakland in 1887, and the second assembly was listed as East Oakland Gospel Hall at 1100 23rd Ave., which met there since 1902 or before. Others are via Oakland Tribune ads.

These lectures begin tomorrow, November 5th, and will continue for eight weeks."

• 1893-11-25: "Gospel Hall, corner of Brush and Seventh streets: Donald Ross will deliver his last lecture on "Daniel", at 3 P.M., tomorrow. Come and hear the truth."

1897

• Witness: 1897-2:

"Although we dare not boast of much spiritual progress in the assembly here, yet I am thankful to say we are now going on in quietness with Himself. Last night we just finished Hebrews. No doubt the Lord was with us in power. Many have expressed themselves blessed while we were going through this epistle. Messrs. McClure and Faulkner are preaching at Oatland, nine miles across the bay from San Francisco, also young H.A. Ironsides (sic), ex-captain of the Salvation Army, has gone forth preaching Christ. The Lord is using him in Stockton, a place about 75 or 100 miles from here. There is now an assembly through his instrumentality. May our God extend the work."

• 1907-12-7: "Gospel Hall, 1013 San Pablo avenue: Lecture by R. Miller of Glasgow, Scotland, "Christ as Seen in the Epistle to the Hebrews". Services 4 p.m.; gospel meeting 7:45 p.m., every night during week (Saturday excepted), 7:45 p.m."

1908

• 1908-4-23: Miss Christina McDonald, of Oakland, was at home with her mother, Mrs. George McDonald, brother George McDonald, Jr. (b. 1888), sister Miss May McDonald (b. 1891), brother Willie (b. 1899), sister Rachel (b. 1906) in their kitchen after finishing supper when a bomb partially destroyed their home, their intended target was the James L. Gallagher home next door. Christina's father, George had "finished supper and had left the house some time before, saying that he was going down town to attend a Christian meeting to be held at the Gospel Hall at Twenty-sixth and San Pablo avenue." • 1912-3-16: "The Gospel Hall, 1013 San Pablo ave: Evangelist Thomas D.D. Muir (sic) of Detroit, Mich., will conduct special meetings Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, 7:45 p.m.; special services Thursday evening at 23d ave. and E. 16th st., E. Oakland. Hearty welcome to all."

• 1912-5-26: "Building for Week Totals $460,575, big record in construction work is made; Church and Home for Aged costly": "A. Fair et al, 2-story gospel hall, east side of Twenty-third avenue, 107 feet from East Twentieth street; $4000."

1914

• 1914-8-22: "Bethany Hall, Twenty-third Avenue, Sunday evening at 7:30, a gospel meeting will be conducted to which all are welcome. Seats are free and no collection."

1918

• 1918-10-12: "Bethany Hall, 1940 23rd Ave., East Oakland: The Gospel of God's Peace will be preached in the above hall on Sunday next, 13th inst., at 7:45 p.m. Prayer meeting Friday, 17th inst., at 7:45 p.m. You are heartily invited to attend. Mr. W.J. McClure will continue his Prophetic Lectures at the Gospel Hall, 1051 Lincoln avenue, Alameda (Alameda Gospel Hall, CA). 1919

• 1919-3-22: "Bethany Hall, 1940 23rd ave., bet. E. 19th and E. 20th East Oakland, Dr. E.A. Martin of Providence, R.I., will give an address to Christians at the above hall on Sunday, 23d inst., at 3 o'clock. The subject will be "The Lord's Second Coming to Take His Waiting People Home", as found in First Thessalonians, 4th chapter, 16-17 verses. He will also give a gospel address on same evening at 7:45 o'clock, and on Tuesday, 25th, and Friday, 28th inst., he will again give an address at Bethany Hall at 7:45 p.m.

Thursday, 27th inst., he will speak at the new Gospel Hall, cor. Lincoln ave. and Chapin st., Alameda, at 7:45 p.m. You are heartily invited to be present at these meetings. Hebrews, 2nd chap. 3d verse: "How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?"
