TIG 1948-2-16: "Robert Baird, one of Indiana's highly respect residents, and a friend of many, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 14th at his late home. He was born in Scotland on May 10, 1881, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Robert Baird of Scotland. Mr. Baird came to Ernest from his Scotland home, and had been a coal inspector at Lucerne mines for a number of years, after having been employed at that mine. He was coal inspector of the Mountain Fuel Co., up to the time of his illness. From 1910 when he arrived here until 1912 he resided in Ernest, moving to Indiana that year. He was a member of the Gospel Hall Church here. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn (Brown) Baird; three sons, Fred (Niagara Falls), Roy (Ind.), and Robert Jr. (Valley Forge General Hospital, Phoenixville, Pa.). One son Thomas preceded him in death. One brother and two sisters living in Scotland also survive. Friends are being received at the Bell Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, by Rev. Albert Klabunda. Interment will follow in Greenwood cemetery."

TIG 1945-3-26: Pfc. Thomas Baird Drowned, Holland: "Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baird from the War Department of the death by drowning, of their son Private Thomas C. Baird, March 21st, somewhere in Holland. Private Baird was born in Indiana on July 15, 1920 and was graduated from the Indiana High School in 1938, and was active in high school athletics. Before entering the United States Army, he had been employed for three years by the Wilbur and Watson Associates Electrical Engineering Firm, Cleveland, Ohio. He entered the Army on Aug. 28, 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Croft, S.C. He left from Ft. Meade, Md., for overseas duty on Jan. 29, 1945. He arrived in England and had only been attached to the 79th Division about three weeks. Private Baird was a member of the Gospel Hall Church, corner of Fifth and Locust streets, Indiana. He was a young man of fine character and held the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Kathryn (Brown) Baird of 553 South Seventh street, and three brothers, 2nd Lieut. Fred Baird, Hampton Roads, Port of Embarkation, Virginia; Private Roy Baird, Third Marine Division, South Pacific and Private Robt. Baird, Jr., serving with the Seventh Army in Germany." TIG 1949-1-27: "Funeral services for Pvt. Thomas C. Baird, who was killed in World War II in Holland, March 12, 1945, while attached to the 79th Division, will be held at the Bell Funeral Home, Saturday, January 29, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. George Duncan of Clearfield will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery, where military rites will be in charge of Indiana Posts of American Legion and V.F.W. ... Pvt. Baird is survived by his mothers, Mrs. Robert Baird, 553 S. Seventh street, and three brothers, Frederic T. of Cleveland, O., David Roy of Indiana, and Robert Jr. of the U.S. Army."

Craig family

TIG 1950-11-13: William Craig, of 624 South avenue, died Sat., Nov. 11, at 5:30 a.m., in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klabunda, on South avenue. Born on April 9, 1875, in Galston, Scotland, the son of James and Mary Craig. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Park Craig, who passed away in 1946. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Anna Klabunda, of Indiana; one grand-daughter, Mary Ellen Klabunda; and one brother, James Craig, of Scotland. He spent his early life in Scotland, and some years in Pittsburgh, and is a retired employee of McCreary Tire and Rubber Co. Mr. Craig has spent the past 27 years in Indiana, and was a member of the Gospel Hall, Indiana. Friends are being received at Robinson's, Indiana, where funeral services will be conducted Tues., Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m. Mr. John Fannan will officiate, with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery."

TIG 1946-12-30: "Mrs. Elizabeth Park Craig of 624 South Ave., Indiana, died Saturday afternoon at 5:50 o'clock in her late home. She was a daughter of David & Annie Walker Park and was born May 3, 1878 in Scotland. Before coming to Indiana 28 years ago, the deceased had lived in Michigan and eight years in Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Gospel Hall, Indiana. She is survived by her husband, William Craig; one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Anna) Klabunda, Indiana; five siblings: John Park, Pittsburgh, and two brothers and three sisters, all in Scotland. One granddaughter, Mary Ellen Klabunda also survives. Friends are being received in the Robinson Funeral Home where services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Mr. John Govan of Detroit, Mich., will officiate. Interment will follow in the Greenwood cemetery."

Frederick family

From +1910-1927+, this family resided at 1164 Philadelphia St., and was the first location of the assembly. In 1910, Lott was employed as a section foreman for the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh (BR&P) Railway, which functioned 1885-1932, and succeeded by the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad.

TIG 1947-1-21: Local Man Found Dead: "Lott Frederick of Indiana, R.D. #4, was found dead in a chair yesterday afternoon at about 1:45 o'clock in the basement of the Savings and Trust Bank Building of Indiana, where he had worked as a custodian. Dr. Edward L. Fleming, Indiana County coroner, said death came as a result of a heart attack. The deceased was a son of James and Martha (States) Frederick, and was born Oct. 23rd, 1870, in Punxsutawney. He was twice married, first to Margaret (Kessler) Frederick, who died in 1930, and secondly to Jennie Rainey Frederick, who survives him. Mr. Frederick was a retired railroader with the Baltimore and Ohio R.R. He had resided in Jefferson County, near Cloe for a number of years, later moving to Rossiter before coming to Indiana forty years ago. He was a member of Gospel Hall of Indiana.

Surviving are his wife, mentioned above: one son, Charles Frederick, Indiana; two daughters, Mrs. Wilmer Roser, Indiana; five step-sons: John Irvin, Indiana; Howard Irvin, Covington, Ky.; David Irvin, Indiana; William Irvin, Montgomery, Ala.; Robert Irvin, Indiana; two step-daughters, Mrs. Telford Henry, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Walter Henry, Indiana; seven grandchildren, and one sister, Miss Minnie Frederick of Cloe, Pa. Friends will be received in the Robinson Funeral Home, Indiana, after 7 o'clock this evening, where services will be helxd Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. David L. Roy will officiate. Interment in Greenlawn cemetery, Cloe, Pa."

TIG 1930-10-6: Death Claims Many Residents: Indiana Center Township, Tunnelton, Saltsburg and Homewood Women Pass Away Over Week-End: Obituary Notes: "A heart condition from which she had been a sufferer for a number of years caused the death at 5:30 o'clock Sunday morning of Mrs. Margaret (Keslar) Frederick, 58, wife of Lott Frederick, at her home on West Philadelphia street. The death of Mrs. Frederick came as a sorrowful shock to her family and by the many friends who held her in the highest affection and esteem. She was essentially a homemaker and devoted her time to the comfort and well-being of her family and in kindly deeds in homes which needed Christian influence and assistance in times of stress. Her presence in the home and the community will be sadly missed.

The deceased was a daughter of Christopher and Jane (Weaver) Keslar, and was born in Jefferson county on Feb. 7, 1872. The family home was in Punxsutawney and Rossiter until 23 years ago, when Mr. and Mrs. Frederick and their family removed to Indiana, where they had since resided. She was a devoted Christian and held membership with the Gospel Hall congregation. Surviving are her husband and these children: Bessie, wife of Charles Lewis of Indiana and Ruth and Charles, at home. Three other children are deceased, two sons in infancy and a daughter, Martha, the wife of Kenneth McFarland, four years ago. She also leaves three grandchildren and these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Elizabeth Clayton of DuBois; Mrs. May Shealey of Brandenton, Fla.; William, Jacob, Abram and Harry Keslar, all of Punxsutawney. Funeral services will be conducted in her late residence at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon and burial made in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cloe, Pa."

Hamilton family

TIG 1959-2-10: "Alexander Hamilton, aged 93 years, of Homer City, Pa., passed away Tues., Feb. 9, 1959 at 3:20 p.m. in the Indiana Hospital where he had been a patient for the past ten days. Born Dec. 6, 1865 in Scotland, he came to the United States with his parents when a small child. Prior to establishing his home in Homer City in 1925, he resided for some years in Jefferson County and also at Ernest, Pa. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Indiana Gospel Hall and of Lucerne Local No. 488 of the U.M.W. of A. Before retiring, he had been in the employ of the Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Co., for almost 60 years.

A son of the late James and Janet Muir Hamilton, he is survived by the following children: two sons, David of Homer City and Walter of Ind., Pa., four daughters, Mrs. Janet Pugh, Bogota, N.J.; Mrs. Thomas (Anna) Jones, Homer City; Mrs. Andrew (Jean) Ruddock, Lucerne Mines; Mrs. Delbert (Barbara) Willison, Getty Heights, Ind., Pa., also 5 brothers: David, John, Joseph, James and Richard, all of Reynoldsville, Pa., Mrs. Annie Stockdale, Reynoldsville, Pa., 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received after 7:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Robinson-Lytle's, Indiana, where services will be conducted Thu., Feb. 12th at 1:30 p.m. Mr. John Walker will officiate. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana."

TID 1938-11-24: Deaths of Past Week: "Frederick Austin Hill, aged 72, a carpenter of 1326 Church street, Indiana, died suddenly at 1 p.m. yesterday while working on the construction of a cabin for Elmer Rising in White township. Death was due to a heart attack, Mr. Hill, born in this county July 23, 1866, a son of Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth (Stuller) Hill, was well-known throughout the county. He was a member of the Gospel Hall congregation. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Catherine Hill, and these children: Mrs. C.W. Stewart of Indiana, Ivan Earl Hill of Indiana, R.D.1; Berrelle Shaulis Hill of Indiana; Mrs. Edna May Scott of Westover and Sylvester Hill, at home. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Klabunda in the home. Interment followed in Greenwood cemetery."

TIG 1959-11-19: "Mary Catherine Hill, 81, passed away Wed., Nov. 18, in Indiana Hospital. She was born July 5, 1878, in White Twp., and had spent her entire lifetime in this area. She was a member of the Gospel Hall. These children survive: Andrew S. Hill, at home; Mrs. Edna Scott, Ind.; Berrelle S. Hill, Zephyrhills, Fla.; Her husband, Frederick A. Hill, and three children are deceased. Friends will be received at the Bell Funeral Home, S. Seventh St., Indiana, from 7-9 p.m. today and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Sat., Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. with Bro. John Walker of Gospel Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery."

James Maitland "Jimmy" Stewart (b. 1908 Ind., PA - d. 1997 Beverly Hills, CA), son of Alexander Maitland Stewart (1872-1962 Ind., PA) & Elizabeth Ruth Jackson Stewart (b. 1875 Apollo, Armstrong, PA - d. 1953 Ind., PA). Alexander's father was James Maitland Stewart (b. 1839 West Mahoning Twp., Ind., PA - d. 1932 Ind., PA). Frederick Hill's daughter Margaret's 2nd husband was William Clyde Stewart (b. 1901 Bolivar, Westmoreland, PA - d. 1981 White Twp., Ind., PA), unknown the identity of his father, and with W.C.'s birth in a different county...

Irvin family

TIG 1930-9-10: Other Deaths: "James Jefferson Irvin, 43, of Lucerne, married and the father of several children, was fatally injured by a fall of rock in the mine of the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company at Lucerne, at 10:30 yesterday morning. Mr. Irvin was loading coal when a large section of rock let go from the roof in the room where he was working, crushed him to the floor of the mine, and practically enveloped his head and body. When rescued by fellow workmen he was unconscious and it was realized at once he was fatally injured. He was removed to Indiana Hospital where he passed away at 1:15 yesterday afternoon, without regaining consciousness.

The deceased was 43 years old and was born Nov. 22, 1887, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Irvin, of Berwindale. He had lived for 12 years in this vicinity. He was a member of the Gospel Hall congregation, Indiana. The deceased leaves his widow, Mrs. Jennie Irvin and these children: Mrs. Beverly Irene Irvin Henry, Indiana; Mrs. Ruth Mildred Irvin Henry, Indiana; John, Howard, David, Billy and Robert, at home; two brothers, Alexander Irvin, Indiana, and Howard Irvin, of Clearfield county, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Woods, LaJose, and Mrs. Annie Troxell of New Washington, Pa. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at his late residence on Grant street in this city. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery." The story, reworded, was reported subsequently in several other Indiana-based newspapers on their front page.

TIG 1920-12-13: Death of Plubell Youth: "Death yesterday afternoon at the Indiana Hospital claimed R.J. Wilber (sic) Plubell, aged 13 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Plubell of Third and Olive streets. Death was due to a complication of diseases. He was a member of Robert Baird's Sunday School class for four years and was a faithful attendant. Besides his parents, he leaves these brothers and sisters: Charles, Arthur, Paul Perry, Mary, Myrtle and Martha. The body was taken to the home of the parents. Funeral services will be conducted at the Gospel Hall, 560 Philadelphia street, Tuesday afternoon at half past one o'clock. Interment will be made in Oakland cemetery."

TIG 1934-4-2: Obituary: "Miss S. Agnes Rowe, of 1255 Church street, died about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, in Indiana Hospital of peritonitis. She had been an employee of the F.W. Woolworth store for many years and was a member of the Gospel Hall, Carpenter avenue. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mary E. Rowe, and a sister, Mrs. George W. Ferguson, and a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be at Gospel Hall at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The body will rest at the family home until noon Wednesday."

She was born in Westover on Mar. 13, 1898, a daughter of Mrs. Mary E. Hill of Indiana and the late Frederick A. Hill. Mrs. Stewart is survived by her husband, William of Indiana and the following: her mother, Mrs. Mary Hill, Indiana; five sons: John C., Indiana; Major Frederick Stewart, Germany; Kenneth, Atlanta, Ga.; Robert L., Indiana; and Richard H. with US Navy, Great Lakes; Two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth McClure, Indiana and Geraldine Ruth, at home; one sister, Mrs. Edna Mae Scott, Indiana; two brothers, Berrel, California; Andrew S., Indiana; five grandchildren. A son William preceded her in death in 1930. Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Gospel Hall of Indiana and a lifelong resident of Indiana.
