Abbreviation guide: '''OB''' (& '''TW-P''' & some '''KLC''') are Gospel Halls, Bible Chapels and others within the "open brethren" (although Gospel Halls (generally) maintain a separate network from the Chapels, and typically prefer a letter of commendation from those visiting from other Halls, practicing guarded reception particularly with regard to breaking bread). Visitors are generally welcomed to observe. '''EB/TW/TW-N/NT/Renton/Grant/Ames''', etc., are "Careful" or "Closed" (sometimes known as "exclusive") brethren (similar in practice on reception to OB Gospel Halls).

'''PBCC''' is a type of "exclusive" also initially known as "Ravenites" or "Park Street Brethren" with a considerably more selective process for inclusion. '''BC''' are (generally) independent community or a "Bible Church" (hence the "BC") fellowships with early or indirect PB influence, and likely does not wish to be considered "Brethren". '''OB BC''' is an independent bible church that retains more than usual of its early brethren influence or practices, or observation of its heritage. [[Local Churches|LC]] references a particular PB-influenced network. See [[Branches of Plymouth Brethren]] for a more detailed list.

The above primer link expands on the abbreviations, and also contains introduction to this (and other) sheets within the overall History. There have been scores of branches with their own distinctive networks and strengths within the history of the PB, and many branches continue to flourish today, and while no assembly or gathering is identical to the others, each is thought to maintain a fervent desire for simplicity in gathering around the Lord Jesus, though practices and secondary doctrines may vary culturally and/or preferentially as autonomous (yet inter-dependent) local gatherings, and would generally abhor denominational titling or language.

Assemblies are sorted geographically, and will, D.V., eventually have further history within. Red links on Brethrenpedia are presently undeveloped, and blue links contain further data. Plus (+) signs denote ambiguity on start or closing year. '''Bold''' years either denote earliest assemblies within regions, or currently active status presumed. Ex-PB independent churches are NOT in bold, if still active, to help differentiate from those still loosely affiliated with a network.

==St. Catherines==
As per his [https://www.brethrenarchive.org/media/358652/bowes-john-autobiography.pdf autobio], John Bowes visited Thomas Simpson & Richard Taylor in the summer of 1866, unsure whether EB or OB. Simpson furnished horse and buggy for Bowes to travel to visit Thomas Archibald near Thorald, formerly of Strathaven. Bowes had traveled to Canada from Scotland with fellow evangelist John Sommerville, who left Toronto for New York, and Bowes to St. Catherines.

** Autobio of John Bowes: June 29, 1866: "Peter Hill, a Mohawk Indian, from Tuscorow (sic), called on me today. He owns 50 acres of land, preaches Christ, and meets to observe the Lord's Supper weekly. He has not been baptized, but I hope will be. I gave him my 24-paged tract on baptism; about 16 meet with him. A brother, Grant, had immersed his infant child of two years... He says the Mohawks number about thirty or thirty-six thousand on the Grand River in Canada. Some are yet pagans, some Episcopalians, and others are Methodists. I gave him a dozen of our tracts for himself and his tribe. Evening: had a meeting, chiefly of Christians, in Mr. Holmes' large room. A few meet weekly here to remember the Lord; possibly more may meet after this."

** Joseph Medlicott Scriven, the noted hymnwriter, settled in Woodstock in '''1845''' from County Down, Ireland, joining PB friends, where he taught a few years before relocating to Brantford where he conducted a private school in the early 1850's, then from 1855-1857 in Huron County near Clinton, then in 1857 he moved to Bewdley where he tutored a retired naval officer named Robert Lamport Pengelly, and became engaged to Pengelly's niece, Eliza Catherine Roach, who died in Aug. 1860. In the late 1860's or early 1870's, he relocated to a cottage in Port Hope where he died in 1886. See [http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/scriven_joseph_medlicott_11E.html biographi.ca] for a fine article.

Abbreviation guide: OB (& TW-P & some KLC) are Gospel Halls, Bible Chapels and others within the "open brethren" (although Gospel Halls (generally) maintain a separate network from the Chapels, and typically prefer a letter of commendation from those visiting from other Halls, practicing guarded reception particularly with regard to breaking bread). Visitors are generally welcomed to observe. EB/TW/TW-N/NT/Renton/Grant/Ames, etc., are "Careful" or "Closed" (sometimes known as "exclusive") brethren (similar in practice on reception to OB Gospel Halls).

PBCC is a type of "exclusive" also initially known as "Ravenites" or "Park Street Brethren" with a considerably more selective process for inclusion.

BC are (generally) independent community or a "Bible Church" (hence the "BC") fellowships with early or indirect PB influence, and likely does not wish to be considered "Brethren". OB BC is an independent bible church that retains more than usual of its early brethren influence or practices, or observation of its heritage. See Branches of Plymouth Brethren for a more detailed list.

Inclusion on this list does not presume affiliation or fellowship with others on said list, except within networks. Historically, there has been minimal interaction between (or intimate (and accurate) knowledge of) the different networks, officially or unofficially, although the advent of social media and other innovations have encouraged slightly more camaraderie, albeit informally.

Assemblies are sorted geographically, and will, D.V., eventually have further history within. Red links on Brethrenpedia are presently undeveloped, and blue links contain further data. Plus (+) signs denote ambiguity on start or closing year. Bold years either denote earliest assemblies within regions, or currently active status presumed. Ex-PB independent churches are NOT in bold, if still active, to help differentiate from those still loosely affiliated with a network.

Appreciate patience with our progress, and if you'd like to help, please contact any of the editing team, preferably via social media. Everything available is publicly visible, passwords are unneeded except for those involved with regional editing or server work. Minor edits we are glad to make on your behalf.
