In 1973, three brethren from Loulé returned from several years work in [[Venezuela]], including Leonildo Rosa Paquete, Francisco de Sousa Martins and his wife Isaura Correia Martins. While in Venezuela they were brought to know the Lord, but were convicted upon returning to Portugal that they were unable to meet in fellowship with groups in Christendom including Baptists, Pentecostals, national churches, open brethren, etc., thru the ''Words of Comfort'' in Portuguese, and contacted Mr. Pinheiro from Lisbon to consult him for counsel. They met regularly for six years for bible study and prayer, receiving visiting brethren Norman Berry, James Kilcup, and Bro. Kiehl. With the help of Daniel Escuain of Navarcies, Spain a table was setup on July 1st 1979 breaking bread with Mr. Paquete, the Martins family, Mr. Pinheiro and Mr. Escain. The meeting continues today.
