Foster family
Ailene Ethel McIver Foster, Gary's maternal grandmother, was born in 1894 in Abbyville, a paternal granddaughter of Thomas "Uncle Tommy" James McIver (b. 1837 Bolton, Manchester, England - d. 1917 Abbyville, KS) who was considered one of the pioneers of Reno Co., as per his obit. Tommy had come to America with his father, Isaac, in 1848. In the old country, Isaac was a Methodist minister, he may have been Quaker in Pennsylvania. They resided initially in NYC, then in Patterson, New Jersey for a year.
They then moved to Philadelphia where he resided in 1850 in Chester Twp., Delaware Co., PA, and at some juncture in the "William Penn House (either Pennsbury Manor or the Slate Roof House), until Tommy moved to Illinois in 1855. In 1860, he was residing in Walnut, Bureau, IL and from 1863-1865 in East Grove, Lee, IL. Then he came to Kansas in 1872, settling near Abbyville about 1874. He was led to Christ under the ministry of Dr. Frynar in the mid-to-late 1870's, and affiliated with the Baptist church in Abbyville where he served as a deacon and S.S. teacher for a number of years.
Maxwell "Max" Merle Foster (b. 1889 McCracken, Rush, KS - d. 1936 Abbyville, KS), Gary's paternal grandfather, was married to Ailene in her father's home in Abbyville in 1914, and settled initially on the farm of Lawrence Deck (b. 1871 Leon, Decatur, IA - d. 1959 Hutch., KS), their wedding was officiated by Methodist pastor Frederick Stolz. Lawrence managed a local grain elevator, his father Peter Deck (1850-1920), locally known as "Uncle Pete", was one of the early county commissioners in Reno Co., and settled there in 1874.
William Kilbourne Foster (b. 1863 Malvern, Mills, IA), Max's father, was a son of George Kilbourne Foster (b. 1823 Hamilton Co., OH; m. 1848 Fort Madison, Lee, IA; d. ? California City, Kern, CA). George's father was John Wesley Foster (b. 1799 Baltimore, MD - d. 1865 Miami, Hamilton, OH), son of Absalom Foster (b. 1766 Hereford, Baltimore, MD - d. 1849 Colerain, Hamilton, OH), son of John D. Foster (1737-1826 Hereford, MD), son of Bazaleel Foster (1713-1753 Balt., MD), son of Thomas Foster (b. 1650 Buckton, Yorkshire, Eng. - d. 1710 Balt., MD), son of John Foster (b. 1624 Edlesborough, Buckinghamshire, Eng. - d. 1650+ Salem, Essex, MA) who immigrated in 1635.

It may be worth noting that Jim's paternal grandmother, Lena F. Ferris Gillett (b. 1868 NY - d. 1957 Frederika, Bremer, IA), was a daughter of James Monroe Ferris (b. 1832 Columbus, Chenango, NY - d. 1923 Frederika, IA), who is likely a patriarch of the Ferris family that have served among assemblies in Lincoln, Nebraska and Marion, Iowa.
Also as per FindaGrave, Jim's paternal grandfather, Likum S. Gillett (1867-1948 Frederika, IA), was a descendant of Jonathan Gillett, Sr. (b. 1609 Chaffcombe, Somerset, Eng. - d. 1677 Windsor, CT), one of three brothers who were among the earliest settlers of Windsor, Connecticut in 1636, having immigrated in 1630 to Dorchester, Mass., as members of a group of Puritans from England on the ship Mary and John.

Piros family
Nicholas "Nick" Jim Pirovolicos "Piros" (not pirate, as I thought in 2013) was born on Ikaria Island in the Aegean Sea southeast of Greece. He and his wife Opal raised their children in Scott City, Kansas where he owned the "Car Cafe". The Scott Republican reported in Jan. 5, 1922, "Nick Piros, the Car Cafe cook and proprietor, on west Fifth St. showed us a wedding anniversary cake, yesterday, that he baked for one of the Mexican boys, in honor of his first wedding anniversary. The cake was sure a fine looking piece of pastry and shows that Nick knows his business..
In 1950, Nick's son Jimmy and his wife Rachel, and their two toddler sons, resided on N. College in Scott City. Jimmy was employed washing cars at the local Conoco filling station, and Rachel was a homemaker. He had previously served 1942-1945 with U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Albert T. Harris. In July of 1951, they had been living at 310 E. Bigger in Hutch., and were moving to South Hutch. By 1952 (thru 1957), they were residing at 1312 E. Ave. B in Hutchinson, which was several houses east of the Burson house, and the children were "very occasionally" attending the chapel. Jimmy died that year, leaving young (27-year-old) widow to raise their small children. By 1958, they had relocated to 510 E. 7th Ave. (+1958-1963+), and Rachel was employed as a notary public at First National Bank. For 24 years, she was also employed as a legal secretary for firm Rauh, Thorne & Robinson. In 1971, she was serving as treasurer for the Reno-McP Legal Secretaries Association. She had two siblings, John Boss of Geronimo, OK and Mary Boss Stonehacker of Riverside, CA. Rev. Harold Canaday officiated Rachel's memorial, she was a member of the First CotN.
From +1910-1920+, Rachel's father John Boss was farming three miles south of Texico, Curry, N.M., and regarded as a pioneer of that community. In 1925, he was a check clerk for the Santa Fe railway in Wellington, KS, where he was still employed in 1941 (AT&SF), with the family residing in the latter year at 403 South C. His parents were Johann "John" Boss, Sr. (b. 1856 Switzerland) & Rachel Ann Cole Patton-Boss (b. 1850 Jonesville, Lee, W.V.; m. 1881). In 1868, Rachel Cole Boss was a charter member of a management team for the PSFES, a Presbyterian society that sought to assist in the schooling of girls in impoverished circumstances. John Boss Sr. first came to the U.S. at the age of 16, on the Vandalia, porting at New Orleans. In +1880-1882+, he was a farmhand in Milam Co., Texas.
As per his obit, Jimmy was a salesman with Foss Used Cars, an employee of Dillons in Ark City, and a member of Faith UMC. In 1973, Tommy was working for Nationwide Exterminating Co. @ 302-B N. Main St., in Hutch., founded by Arthur G. "Hucklebuck" Moye, Jr. (1949-2007) as the third Black exterminator in Kansas, and the first west of Manhattan. Moye came to Hutch in 1948 to manage the Stamey Hotel (now Landmark Apts.), then was the owner of the Ebony Lounge on S. Main for a few years, then employed by Graber "Cream O'Gold" & Jackson dairies before founding the exterminating company. In Tulsa, he was employed as a warehouse clerk. See Tommy's [obit].
- Jimmy Nick Piros (b. 1921 Scott City, Bourbon, KS - d. 1952 Wichita, KS), son of Nicholas "Nick" Jim Pirovolicos (b. 1889 Ikaria Island, Greece - d. 1941 Scott City, KS) & Opal Beatrice Gross Piros-Everly (b. 1904 Lone Tree, Cass, MO - d. 1988 Neosho Rapids, Lyon, KS).
- Wife (1947): Rachel Ellen Boss Piros (b. 1923 Wellington, Sumner, Wichita metro, KS - d. 1975 Wichita, Sedgwick, KS), daughter of John E. Boss (b. 1883 Jones Co., TX - d. 1963 Wellington, KS) & Grace E. Leggett Boss (b. 1896 Vernon, Wilbarger, TX).
