The Assemblée chrétienne de l'Ouest de Montréal began in 1976.  Led by [[André Marchildon]] and [[Leslie Russell]], this was a hive-off of the work of the Grande Maison assembly in Duvernay. In the early eighties, folk from the nearby Lachine assembly, still quite small, were meeting with others living in the same area who were attending Groupe biblique de la Rive-sud on the south shore. With the blessing of the latter, a new assembly was formed in 1982.

Initially known as the Bible Fellowship, this assembly began as a house church in LaSalle on the western end of Montréal. It was under the leadership of commended worker Bill Snyder who, with his wife Marian, had moved from Trois-Rivières Ouest to this area in 1980. Meanwhile, folk from the nearby Lachine assembly, still quite small, were meeting with others living in the same area who were attending Groupe biblique de la Rive-sud at Longueuil on the south shore. Following discussions between members of the two groups, and with the encouragement of the Longueuil assembly, monthly meetings for the breaking of bread were begun in January 1982. The following year, the two groups coalesced and were meeting on a weekly basis for the Lord’s supper. When, about this time, the assembly incorporated under the name of Groupe biblique de l'Ouest de Montréal, it ceased to be biologically linked with the Grande Maison.
