History

The assembly met in Loe Reyse's home for an unspecified amount of time. Dutch was the language of the meeting until they began to use the Believer's Hymnbook. Bill Fairholm visited Vega and Neerlandia in the summer of 1932, during which, an assembly was formed. They used the Dutch hymnbook, "Sang Bungel," until the meetings were conducted in English, at which time, they switched to the Believer's Hymnbook. As the B. Lievers (Ben) family was the largest in the meeting, neighbours would say, "they even have their own hymnbook!"

It was among these believers several years later to reward children in the Sunday school with a camp during the wartime as those were hard times. Rika Lievers decided on a camp and the first one was held on the Liever's farm in 1943. The children loved the camp. Bill Fairholm was one of the speakers. Thar barn and granaries were cleaned out and used (I can't remember if they were overnight or not. So I will have to look that up.). Anyways, they decided to do it the following year except it went for 2 weeks, I believe. It was then that they wished to find a more permanent location which is when they purchased a small fraction along the Pembina River from Andy Christenson and, later, land was donated by Nelson and Agnes Letts so the county could move the road over so it would no longer be right beside the chapel and dining areas. Thus were the beginnings of Bethel Bible Camp. 6 miles west of Westlock and 3 miles north.
