Downie family
John S. Downie was a hardware merchant in Chatham as early as 1871. He was the earliest known PB in that village, followed by the Simpson family. The Downie family was Presby. in 1871. In 1881, two Jones sisters also lived with the Downie family that were also PB: Sarah Jones (b. 1861 ON) & Emma Jones (b. 1866 ON). By 1891, the Downie family had relocated to Windsor, and were "Free Church" at that point.

Windsor Star: "William Burton Dunn, 98, retired manager of the Leamington branch of the Royal Bank of Canada, died Thursday at the Catherine Wilson Nursing Home in Windsor. Mr. Dunn was born in West Flamborough Township, near Dundas, Ont., and lived in Windsor for the past 11 years at the Riverdale Manor Apartments.
He began his banking career with a private bank in Brantford, and by 1901 had moved to Rodney where he managed the S.B. Morris & Co. bank. In 1903, he opened a branch of the Union Bank of Canada in Mount Brydges, Ont., and in 1905 moved to Leamington where he opened another branch of the Union Bank. In 1925, the Union Bank was absorbed by the Royal Bank of Canada, and Mr. Dunn continued as manager until his retirement in 1936. In 1958 he moved to Windsor."
Mr. Dunn was a member of the Leamington Public Library Board for many years, and was largely responsible for obtaining a grant from the Carnegie Institute to establish the library. During the First World War, he was in charge of the Canadian Patriotic Fund for the southern district of Essex County. He was a member of the Leamington Lawn Bowling Club for many years."

In 1871, the family resided in Charlottenburg, Glengarry, ON, and by 1881 resided in Moore Twp., Lambton Co., and setup a table known as the Courtright Meeting Room (TW) which met thru at least 1894.

Pegley family
The Windsor Star 1897-1-5 ran an obit for Charles with the title "A Noted Lawyer Dead", followed by "Chas. E. Pegley of Chatham passes away after a long illness" subtitle. Continuing, "C.E. Pegley, Q.C., of Chatham, died on Sunday morning after an illness which has extended over a long period. His death removes one of the ablest men of the Canadian Bar, and a very successful criminal lawyer. The deceased gentleman was the son of the late Capt. Pegley, a British officer, and was born at Mount Torrance, near the town of Peterboro', 59 years ago. He entered the law office of Walter McCrae, afterwards Judge McCrae, at the age of 17, was called to the bar in 1862, and made a Q.C. in 1890. He was a partner with C.R. Atkinson, Q.C., for some years, afterwards practicing alone. The deceased gentleman leaves a widow and five sons, Charles, Gerald, and William, New York; Roland, St. Paul, Minn., and Torrance, at home. The funeral took place today to Maple Leaf cemetery." He was CoE by 1891.

In 1871, William was a Presbyterian pastor in Nelson, Halton, ON. In 1880, he pastored in Madison, Jefferson, Indiana. By the time of his death, he had returned to Ontario.
- Louisa Simpson +1901-1927+ (b. 1842 Darnley, Prince, PEI - d. 1937 Sarnia, Lambton, ON). She never married, and by 1931, she was registered as UCC. She relocated to Chatham when she was five years old (1847?). She taught school in Chatham and the district for a number of years, and for 25 years was in the beekeeping business in Chatham Twp. until retiring in 1895.
- Albert Benjamin "A.B." Simpson (b. 1843 Bayview, PEI - d. 1919 Nyack, Rockland, NY). He was saved during the 1859 revival under the ministry of Henry Grattan Guinness, who in the 1870's published the Missionary Echo, the first open brethren missions newsletter. He spent some time in Chatham, Ontario, and studied Presbyterian theology at Knox College at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1865, as per his wiki, and was subsequently ordained by the Canadian Presbys. At the age of 21, he was pastoring the large Knox Presby. in Hamilton, Ontario. He subsequently pastored other Presby. churches including at Chestnut St. in Louisville, Kentucky starting in 1873, and Thirteenth St. in NYC by 1880. In 1881, he experienced a shift in theological positions to more of an evangelical one with continuationist leanings, and subsequently founded what became Nyack College and the Christian Missionary & Alliance denomination (now Alliance World Fellowship, and in 1882, allegedly published the first missionary journal with pictures. Nancy resided in Wilmerding (1900) & Wilkinsburg (1904) in the Pittsburgh metro, and she and Allen were married for a year and three months before she died, possibly in childbirth. 2nd wife (1906 @ Windsor, ON): Margaret Eva Hodgkin Simpson (b. 1880 Merlin, Chatham-Kent, ON - d. 1947 Highland Park, MI), daughter of James Hodgkin & Margaret Mills Hodgkin. 1904-1906, Allen was employed as a printer, registered with the "Christian Church", and residing in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. His 2nd wife Margaret was raised CoE. By 1910, they resided in Detroit, MI, Allen was still working as a printer.
- Mildred Simpson (b. 1905 PA). By 1910, Mildred resided with her maternal grandparents in Turtle Creek, a borough of Pittsburgh, where she remained thru her mid-1930's. In 1940, she was employed as a stenographer, and residing with her grandmother in a unique bungalow (Spanish Colonial Revival) style apartment building (built in 1925) at 1136 Logan St., in what is currently the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.
