Edward "Leon" Ponge was a miner, born April 22, 1838 in France, the son of Victor Ponge (1801-1853) and Marie Anne Arnal Ponge (1803-1854) who died in Mas du Chauffes, Vialas, France.  His siblings were:

  • Louise Delfine Ponge (1842-1892)
  • Aline Florine Ponge (b. 1846)
  • Armand Frederic Ponge (1827-1892)
  • Louis Frederic Ponge (1831-1896)
  • Adelaide Ponge (b. 1829)
  • Emilie Ponge (b. 1833)

Leon died around 1926 in Switzerland.  He is listed as the contact for an Exclusive Brethren (EB) assembly in an 1879 directory in Rail Road Flats, California.  He and his family emigrated there in 1873.   It is assumed he was introduced to the Brethren while in France, as Darby made travels there, as well as in Switzerland where Leon died.  His wife Mary was born in 1845 in France.

In 1880, the town of Rail Road Flats was decimated by black fever, but he must have survived, as in 1900 he was living with his wife in Mokelumne, in the same county of Calaveras, in California.
