Winston family
- Isaac Dix Winston III 1983+ (b. 1955 Owensboro, KY), son of Isaac Dix Winston, Jr. (b. 1925 Evansville, Vanderburgh, IN - d. 2014; WWII Navy vet) & Mary Louise Nicely Winston (b. 1925 Irvington, Breckenridge, KY - d. 2013 Rowlett, TX).
- His paternal grandfather was Dr. Isaac Dix Winston (b. 1874 Union Co., KY - d. 1943 Sturgis, Union, KY). Dr. Winston was a M.D.
- His paternal great-grandfather was Dr. Gustavus "Gus" Vasa Winston (b. 1821 Half Sink, Henrico, VA; m. 1855 Paducah, KY; d. 1896 Sturgis, KY), also a M.D. 1860 @ Morganfield, Union, KY. Gus' wife was Elizabeth Byers Dix Winston (b. 1837 Old Washington, Mason, KY - d. 1912 Sturgis, KY).
- A daughter of Gus' great-great-grandfather Capt. Isaac Winston I (1681-1760 New Kent City, Hanover, VA), Sarah Dabney Winston Syme-Henry was mother of "Give me liberty, or give me death" founding father Patrick Henry (1736-1799) who was the first governor of Virginia.
- The namesake "Isaac" originated likely with the earlier emigrating ancestor, Capt. Isaac Winston (b. 1570 Dorset, England - d. 1628 Bruton Parish, York, VA), who may have been among the founders in 1607 of the Virginia Colony (first permanent English settlement in the U.S.), having emigrated by 1610 to New Kent Co., then to Hanover Co. The family may have also originated to the 15th century in Winston, Durham, Eng.
- His maternal grandfather was Dr. Curtis Lafayette Nicely (b. 1889 Union City, TN - d. 1978 Louisville, KY), who pastored several Baptist churches in Kentucky & Tennessee, retiring in 1962 from Yorktown Baptist in Louisville. He also taught Greek at Bethel College (Russellville, KY) & Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, KY), and worked on a New Testament revision.
