Matthews family
Edgar was employed as a salesman for men's tailor-made shirts for many years in Waterloo, relocating to the assembly retirement home in Claremont, California just in February of 1960. As early as 1917, he resided at 206 Leland Ave., which was inherited by his daughter Ruth prior to 1960. William R. Simpson (L.A., CA) officiated Edgar's memorial at Downing Avenue Gospel Chapel.
- Edgar Greely Matthews +1927+ (b. 1869 Pleasanton, Linn, KS - d. 1960 Claremont, L.A., CA).
- 1st wife (1898): Kate Mae Blake Matthews (b. 1872/1873 Lester Twp., Black Hawk, IA - d. 1911 Waterloo, IA), daughter of Thomas Blake (d. 1891) & mother in Oelwein, IA. Kate died suddenly after an operation earlier that day, while Edgar was away on business. Her three sisters all married into the Garrett family.
- 2nd wife (1913): Jessie L. Wishart Matthews +1927+ (d. 1935)

- Ruth Katherine Matthews Craven (b. 1900 Waterloo, IA - d. 1980 Santa Clara Co., CA). Husband: Samuel Craven (b. 1920 Londonderry, N.I. - d. 1988 Santa Clara Co., CA). They lived in Oak Park in Chicago, Illinois until soon after 1933 when they moved to Waterloo.
- Edgar Samuel "Ted" Craven (b. 1933 Oak Park, Chicago, Cook, IL - d. 2010 San Jose, CA). Wife: Patricia L. Bury Craven (b. 1932 - 2020 San Jose, CA). Memorial @ Saratoga Federated Church in CA. Edgar knew the Lord, and was employed in the field of electronics for 46 years, in system design and testing, including working on satellite payload systems for Loral & Lockheed. He was a HAM radio hobbyist 60 years, and a part-time professional photographer, specializing in weddings and portraits.
- Margaret Ruth "Peggy" Craven Nessly (b. 1935 Waterloo, IA - d. 1997 Raleigh, Wake, NC). Husband (1957): Eugene Charles "Gene" Nessly, Jr. (b. 1931 Robbinsdale, Minneapolis, Hennepin, MN - d. 2016 Cottage Grove, Washington, MN), son of Eugene Charles Nessly (b. Guilford, Jo Daviess, IL - d. 1965 Minneapolis, MN) & Dorothy Marie Hoffman Nessly (b. 1903 Westfield, Sauk, WI - d. 1990 San Antonio, TX). Dorothy Nessly was a former member of Valley Baptist Church in Minneapolis.
