  • Dennis James Moore (b. 1840 Halifax Co., NC - d. 1914 Grand Prairie, Dallas, TX), son of Alfred Washington Moore (b. 1815 Tar River, Halifax, NC - d. 1852 Milan, Gibson, TN) & Nancy Sorey Moore (b. 1820 Halifax Co., NC - d. 1842 Orange Co., NC). James lived in Lavinia, TN for 50 years, considered a pioneer citizen, and a Civil War vet. He was a great-grandson of James Moore (1765-1851) who served in 1782 as a private in Capt. Evan's co., 10th Regt., NC Continental Line during the Revolutionary War.

Dr. Woolfolk practiced medicine in Cotton Grove, served as postmaster, and was among those the Whigs who represented Madison Co., TN in Nashville in 1847 which assisted in electing the 12th Governor of Tennessee, Neill Smith Brown (1810-1886) who served this post 1847-1849. Dennis was a descendant of John Moore, Sr. (b. 1635 Eng. - d. +1660 Isle of Wight, VA).

Wife (1906 @ Chicago, IL): Bessie Maple McElvain Moore +1914-1923+ (b. 1883 Bushnell, McDonough, IL - d. 1969 Los Angeles Co., CA), daughter of Oscar Marcellus McElvain (b. 1852 Bushnell or Good Hope, McDonough, IL - d. 1942 Macomb, IL) & Mianna Stickle McElvain (b. 1861 Macomb, IL - d. 1926 Los Angeles, CA). Oscar was a lifelong farmer. In 1881, his cousin I.N. McElvain was the local blacksmith in Bushnell. The family farmed McDonough Co. since the 1840's. Their immigrating paternal ancestor was Andrew McIlvaine, Sr. (b. 1694 Scotland; m. 1717 Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland; emig. 1719-1722 Bolton, Worcester, MA; d. 1754 Lancaster, PA).
