Saint-Vincent family

Saint-Vincent, Sculptor, Dies: Retired Draftsman Known In Art World: "Services for William A. Saint-Vincent Sr., Pittsburgh sculptor and artist, will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Paul C. Forsaith Funeral Home, 126 Hazelwood Ave., Hazelwood. Mr. Saint-Vincent, 91, died yesterday in his home at 126 Greenfield Ave., Greenfield, after a brief illness. A native of London, he retired in 1958 after 15 years as a draftsman for Allegheny County.

Among his sculptured works included decorating the chapel of Christ Episcopal Church, Union Ave., North Side (1831-1958), and statues for two arches at the Grand Army of the Republic encampment here in 1894. They were eight-foot figures representing Washington, Lincoln, Grant and the Goddess of Liberty. He also created a bust of Franklin D. Roosevelt, two copies of which are in the Library of Congress in Washington. He was a member of the Plymouth Brethren Congregation which meets in the Squirrel Hill Community Center. His late brother, Oreste, was a sculptor at Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum in London." (The Pittsburgh Press, 1962-3-20). Also see Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 1962-3-20.

The Pennacchini name is pronounced "Pennakini". In 1894, William Achilles Pennachini emigrated to the U.S., and when he was in the Navy, according to a grandson, he served under a Capt. Saint-Vincent, and liked the name, and renamed himself (and his children) that, as did his older brother John Attilius (1858-1939), both of whom lived in Pittsburgh for most of their American life.

Their father Phillip had one sibling, an older brother, Raffella "Raphael" Pennachini (b. 1828) who fathered one daughter, Roma Lilla Marguerita Violetta Pennacchini Round (1886-1955 Battersea, London, Eng.). Husband (1904 @ CoE, Saint Mary, Battersea, SW London, Wandsworth, Eng.): Joseph Henry Wycherly Round (b. 1881 London, Eng. - d. 1967 Richmond-upon-Thames, London, Eng.), son of boilermaker Samuel Round (b. 1843 Sedgley, Staffordshire, Eng. - d. 1933 Battersea, London, Eng.) & Caroline Wycherley Pritchards-Round (b. 1856 Sedgley, Eng. - d. 1922 Putney Vale, Wandsworth, Eng.). Joseph Round was employed +1904-1939+ as a civil engineer's draftsman, residing in 1911 in South Fields, SW London, Wandsworth. By 1939, he was a draftsman & designer of railways. Joseph & Roma had four children including one who died in infancy.

On a trivial note, Capt. Henry Joseph Round (1881-1966) who resided in London during the same time as Roma's husband was credited as "the father of British broadcasting", an assistant of Guglielmo Marconi who invented the radio & wireless telegraph. No known relation between the two.

• Fillippe "Phillip" Pennacchini (b. 1831 Montorio al Vomano, Teramo, Abruzzo, Italy - d. 1915 Willesden, Mid., Eng.), son of Giuseppe Pennacchini (b. 1787 Bagnolo, Italy) & Angela Dea Bachetta Pennacchini (b. 1880 Nereto, Terramo, Italy; m. 1820 Nereto, Italy). Giuseppe's parents were Filippo Pennacchioni (b. 1760 Italy) & Francesca Magnini Pennacchioni. Phillip was employed as a sculptor/carver of marble. He may have had two other wives, Maria Elenterii (1823-1863 Montorio al Vomano) & Marie Shummar.
• Mary Louise Plummer Pennacchini (b. 1832 Stratton-on-the-Fosse, Somerset, Eng. - d. 1916 Harlesdon, Mid., Eng.), daughter of George Plummer (b. 1803 Kilmersden, Somerset, Eng.) & Elizabeth Gould Plummer (b. 1804 Ashwick, Somerset, Eng. - d. 1851?).

  • Oreste Philip Pennacchini (b. 1857 Pancras, London, Eng. - d. 1934 Brentford, Mid. or Beaufort House, Grange Park, Ealing, Eng.). In 1871, at the age of 14, he worked for the postal service in NW London as a telegraph messenger. For most of his career though, he was employed, initially with his father, as a sculptor of marble and other materials. In 1881, he and his father were both listed as carvers. In 1891, he resided in Hammersmith, London and was listed as a marble sculptor/carver. In 1901, he had moved to Ealing, Middlesex, Eng., with the same occupation, same in 1911. He is credited for sculpting the white marble memorial stone for Lady Annie Jerningham (1850-1902) which was carved in 1906, and erected in 1908, designed by Lady Annie's 2nd husband Sir Hubert Edward Henry Jerningham, a British diplomat and governor of Mauritius, and Trinidad & Tobago, among other roles. According to Oreste's brother William's obituary, he was evidently employed at one point under Madam Tussaud in London, eventually famous for her wax museums.

In 1910, Attilius and Nan resided in Olive, Meigs, OH.

In 1861, James Lyne was self-employed in Kensington as a tailor. 2nd wife: Johanna Reiswitz Saint-Vincent (b. 1894 Peshtigo, Marinette, WI - d. 1988 Fullerton, Orange, CA), daughter of Julius Gottfried Reiswitz, Sr. (b. 1856 Klein Schönau, Friedland, Ostpreussen, Germany; m. 1881; emig. 1883; d. 1936 Chicago, IL) & Ernestine Kienow Reiswitz (b. 1858 Klein Radow, Pommer OR Stramehl, Uckermark, Brandenburg, Germany - d. 1906 Marinette Co., WI). In 1920, it was located at 1704-1708 Fifth Ave., and by 1940 at 1940 Fifth Ave., in Pittsburgh. In more recent years, it was rebranded Burrell Scientific and is based in Zelienople, as per LinkedIn, then acquired by Reagents. By 1950, Fred was farming in Seneca, McHenry, Illinois.

Herbert's career, starting as a teenager, was with the Los Angeles Dept. of Water & Power from 1921-1967, earning a wristwatch among three others after his 45 year mark in 1966. Herbert was in fellowship for many years with the Los Angeles Meeting Room, along with his family, until the move to Atascadero in 1991. Herbert's 2nd wife was Alice "Lucille" Rynex Woehl (b. 1906 Washington Grove, Montgomery, MD - d. 1999 Atascadero, CA), daughter of Frank Reddick Rynex (b. 1869 Washington D.C. - d. 1961 McLean, Fairfax, VA) & Gertrude May Robinson Rynex (b. 1875 IN; m. 1894 D.C.; d. 1958 Washington Grove, MD). Frank worked 43 years (1890-1933) in government service, initially in the printing office, then with immigration services, a member of Lewinsville Presby. Gertrude's father was employed as a dry goods merchant (19th & Penn. Ave.) in Washington D.C., and a Union Army veteran who enlisted in Missouri.
