Wood family

The Wood family apparently immigrated to Canada just prior to 1815, and were Presbyterian thru 1871.

In 1889, John was the correspondent for the North Elmsley Meeting Room, along with John Ford (who was also the contact thru 1894). Robert Wood was the contact +1878-1894+ for the Lombardy Meeting Room. In 1881-1911, John & Maria Wood were PB and resided at South Elmsley Twp. (S.E. Twp.), Leeds & Grenville, ON. In 1921, William & Clara Wood resided in Perth, their father John Wood resided with them, all registered PB, so likely with the Perth Meeting Room then.

In 1911, John & Maria (Wills) Wood had a teenage hired hand named Thomas McTegart (b. 1893 Scotland) who was PB, in fellowship at Lombardy.

Harrylock, Ireland) & Rose Mary Sinnott Tweedy (b. 1770). James was Presby., and Sarah was R.C. in 1871. In 1891-1893, widowed Sarah resided with her John and his family in Lombardy, and was PB although at the time of her death, her obit identified her as RC.

      • Jane Wood Covell (1845-1915 Lombardy, ON). Husband (1866 @ CoE, Perth, ON): Nelson Horatio Covell (1841-1918 Lombardy, ON), son of Arthur Wellesley Covell & Maria Ringer Covell. Nelson & Jane were CoE. Nelson's brother John James Covell (1858-1939 S.E. Twp., ON) had a son named Henry Edwin Covell (b. 1888 S.E. Twp., ON - d. 1977 Rideau Ferry, ON), whose two sons Osborne Henry Covell (1921-2015) and Earl Edward Covell (1925-2020) were longtime correspondents at Rideau Ferry. Osborne was +1985-2015, and Earl was +1962-2005+.

Forest, Wellington, ON - d. 2001), daughter of William Edward Armstrong & Emma Irene Chester Armstrong (b. 1879 Addington Co., ON - 1965). In 1921, Adelaide resided with her parents in Merrickville, ON and was registered Methodist. Robert was PB in Smiths Falls, and employed as an insurance agent at the time of his wedding, Adelaide was of the UCC in Merrickville, and a schoolteacher. Robert was later a member of the Gideons

Twp., ON - d. 1960 Kingston, Frontenac, ON), son of James Alexander Simpson (b. 1864 S.E. Twp., ON - d. 1952 Smiths Falls, ON) & Janet "Jennie" Rebecca Findlay Simpson (b. 1870 N. Elmsley Twp. (N.E. Twp., ON): Robert Allan Livingston (b. 1871 Eudora, Douglas, Lawrence metro, KS - d. 1933 Drummond Twp., Lanark Co., ON), son of George Livingston (b. 1830 Co. Cavan, Ireland - d. 1889 Lanark Co., ON) & Ellen McLean Livingston (b. 1840 Wawanosh Twp., Huron, ON - d. 1882 Lanark Co., ON). In 1911-1921, Robert & Margaret resided in Drummond Twp., and were Methodist. By 1931, they were UCC. Robert was employed as a dairy farmer.

        • William "Billy" George Wood +1931-1955 (b. 1880 Leeds & Grenville Cos., ON - d. 1955 Smiths Falls, ON). Previously @ Rideau Ferry / Lombardy assembly. Wife (1913 @ Newboyne, ON): Clara Elizabeth Clark Wood +1931-1955+ (b. 1890 Leeds Co., ON - d. 1973 Smiths Falls, ON), daughter of John Robert Clark (b. 1854 Frankville, Leeds, ON - d. 1925 Newboyne, Leeds, ON) & Catherine "Katie" Rogers Clark (1854-1930 Newboyne, ON). John & Katie were lifelong CoE. Billy was a well-known businessman in Smiths Falls, including cattle driving (1925-1955), operating "flour and feed concerns" in SF and Perth, owning sawmills in SF, Maberly and Merrickville, and also operated a local garage. A.C. Hayhoe (Smiths Falls) and Harold Hyland (Ottawa) officiated Billy's memorial.

    • John Alexander Simpson (b. 1896 N.E. Twp. - d. 1979 Leeds Co., ON). Wife (1919 Lanark Co., ON): Florence Myrtle Evelyn Perry (1898-1935 Lanark Co., ON). Florence was raised Presby., and remained such thru 1931 with John who was such by the time of their wedding. John was employed in 1919 as a "railroader".
      • Mervyn James Simpson (1932-1953). Mervyn James Simpson was killed at the age of 21 in a car accident near Sharbot Lake, along with his friend Ross Fulton McMullen. At the time, he was a member of No. 6 Repair Depot of the RCAF based in Trenton, having earned the rank of AC2. See obit.
    • Agnes Jane Simpson Knox (b. 1898 Lanark Co., ON - d. 1963 Smiths Falls, ON). Husband (1936 @ Smiths Falls, ON): John Delmar Knox (b. 1904 Brandon, MB - d. 1969 Smiths Falls, ON), son of John Alexander Knox (b. 1878 ON - d. 1916) & Carrie Taylor Knox (b. 1886 ON - d. 1911 Souris, MB). At the time of their wedding in 1936, John was Presby., and Agnes was UCC, and may have remained such.
    • Ernest James Peter Simpson (b. 1902 Lanark Co., ON - d. 1968). Wife (1929 Elmsley, ON): Emma Muriel Clements Simpson (b.). At the time of their wedding, Ernest was Presby., and Emma was CoE.
