Assemblée Chrétienne Evangélique, Sainte-Marie-De-Beauce, Nouvelle-Beauce, Chaudière-Appalaches, Southeast Québec, Canada is a French open brethren assembly founded in 1988.
This work was launched in 1988 by the Assemblée évangélique de Sainte-Foy, seconded by the believers at Saint-Romuald (now Lévis). Christian films were shown at the local school. Encouraged by the positive response, Donald Cox came down from Sainte-Foy to spend several days each week in the area. Before long a local school principal provided keys to the building, allowing believers from the area to meet there each Sunday. Don was soon joined by Lawrence Fortin from the Cookshire assembly in the Eastern Townships.
The latter, born in the Beauce region of Québec, had for many years felt a burden to reach his "own people" with the Gospel. Lawrence being very enthusiastic in presenting the gospel to individuals “in season and out of season”, the Lord blessed in the salvation of souls. After eighteen months of travel back and forth, the Fortins, Lawrence and Lucille, moved to Sainte-Marie where, for a year and a half, they rented a small apartment. Much of their time was spent in door-to-door visitation with meetings being held in the local school. Continuing to receive encouragement from all sides, their steadfastness was rewarded. In 1990 they were able to purchase the former Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah Witnesses. A lovely apartment, already prepared in the basement of the church, became their new home.
On September 15, 1990, the assembly was officially opened on the occasion of the dedication of its new facilities. Six couples together with several children and one single woman formed the nucleus of the work at that time. Three and a half years later, they numbered forty to forty-five. A second and larger property, overlooking the village of Sainte-Marie, was purchased in 2006 from the Knights of Columbus.
