History

The assembly that began at 97th Street in Edmonton, AB was of the original beliefs of the Scottish Revivalists. The assembly received all who professed salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ alone as evidenced by the personal recollections of Bill Fairholm who fellowshipped there in the 1920's. His first Remembrance meeting he attended, he recounts the hymn being given, Man of Sorrows. He became overwhelmed with the truth of the Lord Jesus's sacrifice and wept. He was convinced of believer's baptism a year later and was baptized after already being received into fellowship. The assembly was the mainstay of the assemblies in the city of Edmonton as many present day assemblies trace their history to some brother or sister or young people being exercised to hold Gospel meetings or Sunday school's in some district from the 97st assembly. The Lord blessed the diligent labours with souls being saved and new assemblies planted. However, a tightening began in North America and rifts began to form. Earlier in 1907(?) a division had occurred in the Orilla, ON assembly. This began a division between assemblies across North America. This division reached Edmonton in the 50's. The two factions could not come to an agreement and the group that would become associated with the "chapel" side left the meeting. The 97th street assembly was decimated and only a handful of brothers and sisters remained. The building was sold and a lot was purchased and thus began the Connors Hill assembly meeting at Connors Hill Gospel Hall in 1959.
