History
Assemblée Evangélique de la Rive Sud, St. Jean Chrysostome, Lévis, Chaudière-Appalaches, Southeast Québec, Canada is a French open brethren assembly founded in 1983.
Across from Québec City, on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River, lie several municipalities, among which were to be found Saint Romuald and Saint Jean Chrysostome. In 2002, these, along with several others, were merged into what is now known as Lévis.
In the early 1970s, several families living in this area came to know the Lord and began to fellowship with believers at the Sainte-Foy assembly. The latter being located across the bridge, on the north shore, much travel was entailed. Soon there was a growing desire to see an assembly established closer to home. Explosive growth at Sainte-Foy beginning in the late seventies resulted in a hive-off and the birth of this new work.
After a year of meetings together for prayer, the Assemblée évangélique de la Rive-Sud (south shore) officially began in October 1983 at Saint Romuald. Nine years later, following several moves, it permanently relocated to the borough of Saint Jean Chrysostome, occupying its newly-constructed edifice. By this time, over one-hundred persons were in attendance.
At the outset, commended workers André Guay and wife Louise served full-time at the assembly. They were replaced in 1996 by François Fréchette and his wife Louise who continue to the present time in this healthy and active assembly. Just recently, the assembly commended Martin L’Hébreux together with his wife Marie-Pierre to a ministry among them. All of these are French Canadiens. Meanwhile, in 2015, a daughter assembly was established at Laurier Station, forty-five kilometers south of Lévis in the Lotbinière region of the province.
