The assembly at Cullen’s Brook began around 1915. It was located to the west of Black Cape, some miles back in the country. Unfortunately, little is known about this work. According to Goodwill (Goody) Campbell, his great uncle Hugh Campbell came from Cullen’s Brook and was very influential in the life of George Campbell, Goody’s own father. Hugh had apparently been saved as the result of Methodist tent meetings as early as 1858. Peterson comments that “in the 1950s, the only Gospel testimony in the small community of Cullen’s Brook was the Cullen’s Brook Assembly.”

In 1942, Roland Campbell was the first civil pastor to be appointed for this assembly. By 1960 he had passed away and George Campbell was then the civil pastor. Three years later, Hudson Sinclair was appointed civil pastor to second George Campbell who by then was spending winters with his daughter in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Within two years, Mr. Sinclair too had passed away.

The assembly was apparently still in operation as late as 1976 when a request was made to the Corporation for an interim civil pastor to be appointed. Other names mentioned in connection with this assembly include Harold Campbell, Frank Tozer and Earl Woodman. Riverside Cemetery at Cullen’s Brook, holds the earthly remains of not a few of the believers from these Gaspé assemblies who went home to be with the Lord down through the years.
