Henry Richard "H.R." Sadler is to be credited as a co-founder of the earliest open brethren assembly in Denver, Colorado, and one of two of the earliest in all of Colorado. He was raised in England, and associated with the Exclusives before breaking with them in the early 1900's.

He was born in 1861 at Barton St. Mary, Gloucester, England to farmer Henry his wife Mary Sadler. He was given an Anglican baptism on Jan. 8, 1862 at the Mariners Chapel in that same area. Henry emigrated to the U.S. in 1880, living briefly in New York City where his first wife Jane's family was living. Henry relocated to Denver prior to 1894 to setup a furniture dealership.

Around 1901, he broke with the exclusive brethren, and with a Mr. McIlven, co-founded Denver Bible Hall, also known locally as the Sadler Meeting, later known as Elim Hall, which eventually merged with other assemblies to become what is now Lakewood Bible Chapel. See Lakewood's website.
