1957

  • AA 1957-12: Editorial: An Urgent Need For Prayer:

"Each year, a group of brethren from various parts of the United States and Canada meet together for a few days of consultation, ministry and prayer. For some time now at this Christian workers' conference a call for prayer has been sent forth to the various assemblies of the saints. The conference was held this year in the Seattle area in the State of Washington, and the call to prayer was signed by eighteen of the brethren attending.

The letter suggests that "each assembly meet for a season of special, united prayer, either in the assembly halls or in homes, as is deemed most suitable". The letter continues, "In some cases it might be profitable for a number of assemblies in a city to meet together, or each assembly in its own building... We suggest that this period of special prayer commences Monday January 6 and continue as the Lord leads, looking to the Lord to fulfil His promise given, "Call upon Me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, that thou knowest not." Remember the proposed dates and object, January 6th, and continuing as the Lord leads, looking to Him to reveal Himself in power, reviving the hearts of the people."

The "object" referred to above, includes, besides those things mentioned, "the great need of the church today of a manifestation of the energy of the Spirit of God in the midst of His people; the need of conversions in the assembly Gospel meetings, and enthusiasm among the believers as to their part in winning souls for Christ; and the need of those who seek to serve the Lord among His people in the Gospel.

Copies of the circular in its entirety may be had by addressing William Murray, 10921 - 73rd Ave., Edmonton, Alberta, Çanada."

  • WiS 1959-3: "Saints here appreciated brother Saword's ministry and reports of the Lord's work in Venezuela."
  • WiS 1959-5: "Interesting series of addresses on "The Church of God" by bro. Alves. Christians turned out well... the Word practical."
  • WiS 1959-7: Okanogan, WA: "Bro. Alves had a few meetings with saints here recently. In Seattle saints write of helpful visit by bro. McShane of Ireland. He went on to Iowa and gave a few nights amongst some of the Assemblies and was cheered in seeing the work of God in that State, as elsewhere. There are still many of God’s people who have an ear for the good Word of God spoken by men who fear God and walk in His ways. May God increase their number. Bro. McShane visited Sarnia and Toronto ere sailing for home May 22nd., We were glad to meet our brother. Our “vast country’’ here is a far cry from North Ireland with its many assemblies so closely planted together. But we have the same God and Shepherd of our souls who cares for His own. Sydney Maxwell had a week of meetings recently in Seattle."
