1947

• Jan. L&L & LOI: The Sisters Missionary Class of the Gospel Hall, Ventnor, New Jersey, is taking this means of giving information concerning the Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians that has just been purchased in Longport, N.J., and would like to have the interest and help of other Sister-Groups in equipping the Home. Any packages or donations may be sent to Mrs. Raymond Sunderland, 20 S. Andover Ave., Margate, N.J.; Mrs. A. Weir (Sec.)"

• Jan. AA: New Jersey, Longport: "A new home for aged Christians will (D.V.) formally opened here about Feb. 22. This is another evidence of the kindness of the Lord through His people. For many years Mrs. Luff, better known as "Sister Abigail" carried on her little service for the Lord at El Nathan. This work is still ably carried on by Mr. and Mrs. Ednie, 26 Richmond, Buffalo, New York. As the need increased, others were exercised, and now a similar work is carried on by Rest Haven Homes, Inc., with a unit in Grand Rapids, Mich., and another in Spring Lake, Mich., Western Christian Assemblies Homes in Los Angeles, and Elim Homes in Waubaushene, Ontario. The new home will be called Gospel Hall Home for aged Christians, and is located at 24th and Oberon Avenues, Longport, New Jersey. Sister's groups have, without solicitation, given considerable help in furnishing these homes, and we are sure they will want to add the home in Longport to their list."

• Feb. L&L: Gospel Hall Home For Aged Christians, 24th and Oberon Ave., Longport, N.J.: The brethren responsible for the above home have made settlement on the building and are now busy having the necessary repairs and changes made. When finished it will be very comfortable for aged Christians to enjoy their closing days on this earth. An opening is planned for Saturday, Feb. 22, which will be carried through Lord's day. A number of the Lord's servants are expected and Christians are invited to come and visit the Home.

Any of the assemblies who would like to apply for space should write for an application. So far there are about twenty-eight applicants, so first come, first served to those who are eligible. A Library of good sound books with large print if possible, is being made. Any such books available can be sent in care of the home. To be exempt from property tax and also to open such a Home it was necessary to incorporate under the New Jersey state laws, and so the following brethren were appointed to serve as officers and trustees:

"Was with George Gould for five weeks gospel meetings at Niagara Falls. In spite of adverse weather conditions, attendance was good, but results in conversions were lacking. Had the privilege of being at the opening for the Home for Aged in Longport, New Jersey, last weekend. Will begin a series of gospel meetings in W. Chicago Blvd. Hall, Detroit, tomorrow."

• May LOI: "Home for Aged, Longport, N.J.: About three hundred visited the home during the opening, February 22 and 23, and fifteen of the Lord's servants ministered the Word most faithfully. Many have expressed that is was a time of refereshing. Stenographic notes were taken and those desiring a copy may write to us. We have about twenty in the home and expect this number will be doubled within the next several weeks. It gives us great joy to see the aged as they group together to read over His precious Word and relate the early experiences of the Christian life. We encourage the Christians to visit us and see the Home and thus encourage those who will spend the remainder of their days here. Any correspondence or packages should not (sic) be addressed Gospel Hall Home for the Aged, 24th and Oberon Avenue, Longport, New Jersey. Yours in His service, William Moon."

• May L&L: "Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians, 24th Street, Longport, N.J., held a grand open house Feb. 22 and 23. Many of the Lord's people attended and were refreshed in spirit by the messages from God's word ministered through His servants. Those taking part were Wm. Moon, Robert Crawford, Benjamin Bradford, John Conaway, Paul Plubell, Gordon Reager, Ernest Sprunt, Bro. Glasgow, H. Marshall, and others. This home is large and comfortable, a delightful place for Aged Christians to spend their closing days on this earth."

• July LOI:
  • "Correction: Regarding the item captioned "Home for Aged" May edition Letters of Interest, the last paragraph should read, "Any correspondence or packages should be addressed to Gospel Hall for the Aged, 24th and Oberon Avenue, Longport, N.J."
  • "Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians, Longport, New Jersey: There has been a delay in sending out a report on the activities of the Home due to the fact that there were many small items that needed attention before we could say that the building was completed... As we look about us and see the happy faces of God's dear aged children, we can truly say, 'Bless the Lord... who crowneth us with loving kindness and tender mercies.' Yours in His service, William Moon."

• July L&L: "We have seen God's hand of blessing upon us in every step of the way. Perhaps you may better understand what great things the Lord has wrought here for His own, as it comes from the heart of one who enjoys the happy privileges. Our beloved sister, Mrs. Lilly Thomas, who comes commended from the Bronx Assembly, says: "I am so happy and thankful to the Lord for opening up this haven of rest for me, for which I have prayed for several years. From the moment I entered though late in the day, I felt the Christian atmosphere. I was welcomed by those who were here at that time and fell in love with them and the home. I thank my Father daily, yes hourly, for placing me here." Will be glad to consider any applicants that are submitted to us by any in your assembly. We would like again, to extend an invitation to any who are interested in seeing the home, at their own convenience. Please continue to pray for us that the Lord may give us wisdom and guidance in all matters pertaining to the Home. Wm. Moon."

• Sept. LOI: "We have a come a long way since first the burden of this much needed work was laid on our hearts, and we can truly say to the praise and glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, that He led us all the way. As each need or problem confronted us, He so graciously provided and blessed that we can say with the Psalmist, 'O sing unto the Lord... for He hath done marvelous things.' It is our desire to have the outside of the Home shingled, which will make the building fireproof and being insulated also, will be a source of saving much fuel. This will be the last major expense involved with repairs to the building itself.

It would be greatly appreciated if there are among your number, those who would like to give their services in connection with painting and plumbing, so that the last few small jobs may be completed in the Home. In view of the fact that we would like to be settled before the beginning of the cold weather, will you kindly see that all possible applications are in by September? This will make it possible for us to determine what rooms might still be available after that. Please address all correspondence, etc. directly to the Home.

• Jan. LOI: "Beginning with this January issue and continuing through the year, 1948, D.V. the editors of Letters of Interest plan to publish on the front cover of the magazine photographs of buildings, places or persons in connection with assemblies of the Lord's people gathered together in His precious name. The photograph this month is that of the Home for Aged Christians at Longport, N.J. This home was opened in the early months of 1947, in hearty fellowship with the assembly in Atlantic City, N.J., and other assemblies in that vicinity. Under the able direction of brother Wm. Moon. It already has proven a great blessing in filling a need for the Lord's dear people in the eastern states."

• Feb. LOI: "Benjamin Bradford, 3223, 33rd St., Long Island City, N.Y.: I enjoyed a few meetings at the conference in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and also some meetings in Longport in the Home for Aged Christians, which was appreciated and brought good cheer to all. At present I am in Spring Lake, N.J. to give help as the Lord may guide in the ministry of His Word."

• Feb. L&L/LOI: "We are again privileged to arrange for special conference meetings over the Washington's birthday holiday, Feb. 21-23. The first meeting will be for prayer Sat. Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m. and as follows: Lord's Day 10:30 a.m. Breaking of Bread, 2:30 p.m. Prayer and Ministry, 7:00 p.m. Gospel; Monday 10:30 Prayer and Ministry, 2:30 p.m. Prayer and Ministry, no Gospel meeting. All meetings will be held and meals served at the home. We will try to accommodate as many as possible coming from a distance or arrange for accommodation. Everyone is heartily invited. Angus Weir and William Moon."

• Mar. LOI: Longport, New Jersey: "The conference meetings held at the Home for Aged Christians over the Washington birthday weekend were a season of great blessing to all present. The worship meeting on Lord's day morning was one that shall long live in all our memories as the melting scenes of the Cross touched all our hearts in a very precious way. It was also most refreshing to meet and converse with the aged guests of the Home and to learn from them the comforts, the joys and the great happiness they are now experiencing in the eventide of their lives. The ministering brethren present were Conaway, Gould, Fesche, Kennedy, Lyttle, Williamson, Tilsley, Trimble and Marshall. All the visitors of some 200 and more were most beautifually provided for and entertained by the saints of Longport and vicinity. Keep this Home on your prayer list. W.H. Marshall."

• Mar. L&L: Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians, 24th and Oberon Avenue, Longport, New Jersey: "We now have about thirty in the home and expect about twenty more to come in before it has reached its capacity. These dear saints have longed for a home of this kind and are now enjoying happy fellowship one with the other. The home is very conveniently located to the assembly where they are almost all taken by cars to the meetings. They are at liberty to go and come from the home at any hour of the day. The home overlooks the ocean on the one side and the bay on the other with a large enclosed porch surrounding it where they can have recreation during inclement weather."

• Apr. L&L: "While we are all well and enjoying good health, it is rather difficult to travel to conferences. Hence, we invited the Christians to come here and visit the Home on Feb. 22-23 and have a conference with the saints here. About two hundred stayed over the three days and we had eight of the Lord's servants to give helpful ministry. We have about thirty old people at present, and expect about twenty more to reach building capacity. William Moon."

• July LOI: Assembly Homes Hold Conference: "Under date of June 1, 1948 a conference for members of the boards and staffs of the several homes for the care of the aged and infirm was held in Evangel Hall, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Representatives from the following homes were present:

Much help was gained in the exchange of problems and their solution. 'Where no counsel is, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14)."

• Nov. L&L: "In every true sense of the word we can call our home a haven of rest for His own in the late years of their lives. The members of our family now number thirty-nine and with other applications pending we realize the necessity for this home. When an individual requests entrance, an application is forwarded and when endorsed by the brethren from the assembly with which the applicant is identified it is then judged as to the emergency and need of the person applying for such a home. Those privileged to carry on this work are doing it for the Lord. It has been necessary to equip a room with a hospital bed and needs for the sick. Such expenses are contributed by the assemblies and individuals of the Lord's people."

• Dec. LOI: "Republished: After being out of print for some time, the Gospel Folio Press has undertaken to republish the book, Sister Abigail. Those who have followed with interest the account of El Nathan in the September issue of Letters of Interest, and in previous issues the work of "Western Assemblies Homes", "Elim", "Longport", and "Rest Haven Homes" will be interested in this venture. There is a new foreword to this edition by Miss Grace Pell of Rest Haven Homes, Inc. The price is $1.75 postpaid and is available at any of the book stores selling Christian literature and supplies."

• Dec. LOI: "Mrs. Florence McKay, who with her late husband labored in the West Indies for many years, is now a resident of the Home at Longport. She sends us a few interesting details of the Home, as follows: 'This home would need to be seen to be appreciated. There are 39 guests and most of them are 80 years old, or near that age. There are continual improvements being made the for the comfort of the guests. We now have a lovely sun porch, an oil burner for supplying hot water for domestic use, and an elevator is being installed. The elevator was a necessity as the building is four stories high. Mr. Moon, when his day's work at the office was finished, was down in the shaft helping to dig in preparation for the elevator. This together with the efforts of a brother in the Home, aged 79, who with the help of others did most of the work, reduced the expense to a minimum. A cordial invitation is given to the Lord's people to visit the Home, and a hearty welcome awaits them." Also see Who's Who at Longport Gospel Hall Home, NJ.

• May AA: New Jersey, Atlantic City: "On Feb. 22, 1947, the Gospel Home for Aged Christians was opened in Longport, adding steadily to the number in fellowship here until the Home was filled. During the summer months of 1947 and 1948, when we have quite a number of visitors, our Hall was packed and it was with difficulty we were able to seat those desiring to remember the Lord. With the procurement recently of a larger building by the Home, in order to house more of the Lord's people, we realized there will not be room in the Hall this summer for all to meet as previously so the brethren came together to consider this matter. There were three possible solutions to the problem. To acquire a larger hall; to meet in the Home for the breaking of bread; to gather in two companies, in the Home and in the Hall for the breaking of bread only, as there is always room in the Hall for the other meetings.

• • We decided on the latter course, to be acted on first on Lord's Day, May 29, 1949. Our reasons for this are as follows. We are not in a position at present to buy or build and it is not advisable to enlarge our present Hall. We do not like to close the Hall on Lord's Day morning, because of the appearance in the neighborhood and the confusion and inconvenience it would cause to visitors. We wish to emphasize that this is not a division of the saints here, and that while it has been caused by circumstances beyond our control, we trust that the Lord's presence will be very real to each company, and that we will be with one mouth and one heart glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

"Favorable progress has been made regarding the purchase of the Essex Hotel in Longport, to be used as a home for more of the aged Christians who are in need of a home. At this writing $30,000.00 has been paid and with what will be realized after the sale of the present building, there will still be a balance of approximately $25,000.00 required for settlement by June 1. We would like to have the interest of all the Lord's people in the purchase of these larger quarters, as we have taken this step in the full confidence of the Lord and we believe He is able. Looking over the past two and a half years since this home was opened we have been made to realize and thank God for His unceasing faithfulness in supplying every need, opening ways and means for His people to be cared for in this the eventide of their lives. "He is faithful that promised." (Hebrews 10:23). Please continue to pray that we may still definitely be guided and that God's good hand may be seen in this undertaking for His glory. Wm. Moon."

• June AA: "Favorable progress has been made in the purchase of the Essex Hotel in Longport, N.J., to be used as a home for more of the aged Christians than could be accommodated in the present home. Any of the Lord's people desiring more information can write to Wm. Moon, Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians, Longport, N.J."

• Sept. AA: "Conference meetings will be held at the time of the formal opening of the Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians in their new building on Atlantic Ave. and 29th St. in Longport, New Jersey. Accommodations will be provided for as many as possible in the new home, and suitable hotel accommodations at reasonable rates can be secured near by. The meetings will be held on Saturday and Lord's Day, Oct. 8 and 9, at 10, 2:30 and 7, with a prayer meeting Friday night, Oct. 7 at 7:30. Communications may be addressed to William Moon, 29th & Atlantic Ave., Longport, N.J."

• Nov. L&L: Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians, Longport, N.J.: "Special meetings for the opening of the new home was held on Oct. 7-9. More particulars in a later issue."

• Nov. L&L: F.W. Schwartz, 5035 S. Martindale Ave., Detroit, Mich.: "Had encouraging meetings in Maryland and Central Pennsylvania. It is good to see what the Lord has wrought in those parts in recent months. Called briefly in Philadelphia and Atlantic City and Longport, N.J., where the Lord also gave help in ministry to His own."

• June AA: "In response to many requests, the publishers of Assembly Annals have reprinted the editorial appearing at the time of our Brother W.A. Upton's home-call from the Spring Lake Unit of Rest Haven Homes, Inc. This booklet contains a photograph of our brother, an account of his life, the memorial addresses given at the funeral service, as well as the editorial referred to. The booklet sells for five cents each and may be ordered from the publishers. The work for the Lord still goes on with encouragement in Elim Homes, in Waubaushene, Ontario, the Gospel Hall Home in Longport, New Jersey, and in Elnathan in Buffalo. We are sure our readers will remember those who in these places seek to serve the Lord in thus caring for His aging saints."

• Sept. T&T: Longport, N.J.: "The third annual conference of Christians gathered to the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, will be held Sept. 2-4 at Longport, N.J., in the auditorium of the Gospel Hall Home for Aged Christians, at 10 a.m., 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd, and 10 a.m. until noon on the 4th. Accommodation, as far as possible, will be provided in the dormitories of the home, for those coming from a distance."

• Oct. L&L: "The third annual Labor Day conference held at the Longport, N.J., "Home for the Aged," was very helpful for all who attended. Harmony and unity prevailed from the kitchen to the platform. Brethren Davis, Waugh, Dickson, Tharp, McBain, Crawford, Conoway, Oglesby, Hathaway and Reager took part in ministry with the exception of Mr. Conoway, who is convalesing. The ministry was helpful and edifying. From 450 to 500 attended. The conference was held in their new comfortable and attractive auditorium. The management and the growing assembly in the home was cheered and encouraged."

1951

• Aug. AA: NEW JERSEY, Atlantic City, Longport: "The fourth annual Convention will be held at the Gospel Hall Auditorium, 29th and Atlantic Ave., Sept. 22 and 23 commencing with a prayer meeting at 7:30 Friday Sept. 21. Other meetings at 10:30, 2:30, 7:30. Accommodations will be provided as far as possible, but rooms may be secured for out of season rates at nearby hotels. All meals will be served in the dining rooms of the Gospel Hall. Communications may be sent to Wm. Moon, 29th and Atlantic, Longport, N.J."

• Aug. AA: NEW JERSEY, Longport. "The Sixth Annual Conference will be held in the Gospel Hall Auditorium, 29th and Atlantic Avenues, Longport (Atlantic City), N.J., Sept. 19 and 20 commencing with a prayer meeting Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:30. Meetings will be 10:30, 2:30 and 7:30 each day. Accommodations will be provided as far as possible, but rooms may be secured for out of season rates at nearby hotels. All meals will be served in the Gospel Hall dining rooms. Communications may be sent to Wm. Moon, 29th and Atlantic, Longport, N.J. Phone Atlantic City: 2-9979."

• Aug. L&L: J.T. Dickson, Box 136, Petersburg, Va., has been giving help in various meetings in Connecticut and also had a weekend at Longport, N.J. Our brother's health is better and he is seeking to be of help where he can in ministering the Word."

• Sept. T&T: Longport, N.J.: "Our annual conference will be held, D.V., Sept. 18 and 19, with prayer meeting, Sept. 17. Meetings to be held in the Gospel Hall, 29th and Atlantic Aves. Wm. Moon."

1955

• Jan. T&T: Longport, N.J.: "W.H. Ferguson had some meetings, and then went to Ferndale, MI. He is exercised about cottage meetings some 30 miles from Detroit."

• Aug. T&T: Longport, N.J.: "The Conference will be held, D.V., Sept. 17 and 18, with a prayer meeting Sept. 16 at 29th and Atlantic Ave."

• Oct. WiS: Camden, N.J.: "H. Alves was to commence here after the Midland Park conference. Rea and Gustafson gave a call to Barrington, and Oswald MacLeod and Wm. Ferguson gave a call to Bryn Mawr after Longport conference. The latter also gave a short visit to 73rd St. New York Assembly. Found appreciation for the Word."

• June L&L: "F.W. Schwartz, 14283 Terry St., Detroit 27, Michigan, has had meetings in Washington, D.C., then Philadelphia and Hatboro, Penn. Also spent a week at the Home for the Aged in Longport, N.J. Expects to spend some weeks in North Carolina, beginning late in May."

• July AA: Claremont, Calif.: "In the multitude of counselors there is safety." On the basis of this Biblical principle, the Christians interested and active in the care of children and the aged met at the Claremont Gospel Chapel on April 1 and 2 for a two day conference to discuss the many problems relating to this ministry among assemblies in the U.S.A and Canada. Addresses, reports and lectures were given by James Gunn, Frank Faulkner, Mrs. Arnold Mattice, Dr. Sterling, G. Pollocks, R.B. Matthews, Capt. John Barlow, and others. It was felt by all who participated in and attended the conference that the meetings were informative, inspirational and a blessing. It was announced that a committee would plan for another similar conference next year, D.V. Similar conferences have been held in the past in Waubaushene, Ont., (Elim Homes); Longport, N.J., (Gospel Hall Home); Grand Rapids and Spring Lake, Mich., (Rest Haven Homes, Inc.)."

• Nov. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "At recent Conference here about 400 "broke bread", eleven of the Lord's servants present to help in ministry. We trust the ministry will prove helpful in these difficult days."

• Apr. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "Our brother William Moon was in the hospital for a few days but feeling stronger last we heard. Our brother has had heavy responsibility in connection with the Home here and should have our prayers. God has signally used him in this needful service."

• Aug. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "Annual Conference will be held, as usual, D.V. Sept. 16th and 17th, commencing with Prayer Meeting evening of Sept. 15th., at 7:30 p.m. All meetings in the Auditorium of the Gospel Hall and usual order of meetings will prevail. Saints heartily invited to hear the good Word of God. Correspondence to William Moon, 29th & Atlantic Ave., Longport, N.J."

We trust the good seed sown will bring forth much good fruit. Last of August was in the east due to death of my brother-in-law, Alexander Johnston, and while there had the joy of ministering in several assemblies and also of visiting the Gospel Hall Home for the Aged at Longport, N.J. Those who serve God by ministering to the needs of these aged pilgrims will have their great reward in a coming day."

• Jan. WIS: "We noticed a little sign on the busy kitchen of the Home for the Aged in Longport, N.J., while there, as follows: "If you have nothing to do, don't do it here."

Spurgeon adds, "If you consort with the common ruck of brethren, and travel on the road to heaven so slowly that it is a question whether you are going there at all, then you escape criticism. If you keep with those who practice the snail's march they will call you a good easy man, a right respectable person. But if you run for it, if you put out all the energy of your nature, and are determined to live at a high pitch for Christ, you will get the cold shoulder, even from many of His disciples, for you will be practically condemning their half-heartedness; and who are you to be such a "troubler in Israel?"

The more prudent among brethren will say that your pride and the naughtiness of your heart make you so forward and presumptuous, and they will try to put you down, or put you out. You cannot commit a greater crime against some people than to be more useful than they are. When a person reckons himself to be the standard of holiness, he looks upon one who excels him as guilty of a kind of blasphemy. If you outrun others do not reckon upon smiles, but count upon dark looks. You will be called impudent and impertinent. Bear it all and fret not.

Go to your Lord and tell Him what you have done, and are doing, all you can, and entreat Him to smile upon you. Crave His acceptance of your poor doings, and then go about your business, occupying till He comes. Sow the seed of duty, and care not whether or not in human judgment it shines or rains. "He that regards the clouds will not reap:" if you regard not clouds at all, you will do your sowing and reaping with the comfort of true faith, and God will bless you."

• Feb. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "Our brother Frank Knox had two weeks of appreciated meetings here with the aged saints and others who attended. One professed from the neighborhood. He also visited Pennsauken assembly and Hatboro, a week in each place. He expects to spend some time in New England district before returning homeward, D.V."

• Jan. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "The aged saints here in the Gospel Hall Home for the Aged are being tenderly cared for, some near the journey's end. William Ferguson gave them a call while East. Their Fall Conference was reported encouraging."

• May WIS: Longport, N.J.: "The Gospel Hall Home for the Aged receives a visit now and again from visiting laborers, brother Alves and brother William Ferguson called recently. The aged saints have the privilege of having the Assembly meeting room right in the spacious auditorium in the Home. The work here demands considerable self-sacrifice on the part of the workers and the aged ones are tenderly cared for under very comfortable surroundings. The Home is on the ocean front. We know the directors of the Home well through the years and have no hesitancy in commending most highly their desire to help these aged saints in their closing years, also the high caliber of management connected with the Home. Their testimony is that "God is good and doeth good." Pray for them. Brother William Moon is Administrator."

• July WIS: Camden, N.J.: "Bro. William Ferguson gave a call here while visiting in the East in New England. He also visited the saints in Longport in the Gospel Hall Home there. Our brother Moon has not been well but we had a good visit together and he had felt a little stronger. Continue to pray for our brother who has been a mainstay of the Home here through the years. Brother Calderhead visited Barrington, N.J. recently also."

• Nov. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "Conference here was large and considered helpful but we were saddened by the absence of our beloved brother William Moon. He was able to follow us as to the ministry and proceedings but very weak and "went home" the following Friday afternoon. We hope to have a brief Memorial in the next issue."

WIS: "We have been concerned for a number of years at the lack of appreciation of some assemblies towards older servants of Christ of their fellowship, as to encouraging them to remain in their midst more often, and give help. Many of God's servants feel that they are more or less "persona non grata" at certain times in the home assembly and rather make themselves scarce than embarrass the elders. This is a lamentable evidence of human nature, which our Lord took notice of when He was here, in repeating... "a prophet hath no honour in his own country". We suggest a careful analysis of the meaning of Numbers 8:23,26. A proper use of their experience and wisdom might save many an assembly from losing ground. The saints and those who care for them in the Home in Longport, N.J. should have an interest constantly in our prayers."

Later we started a series of gospel meetings in Arlington, Wash."

• Dec. WIS: Trinidad, B.W.I.: "Our beloved and esteemed brother Henry Thomas Spencer "went home" Sept. 25th, aged 86. Another of our veteran pioneer brethren has been removed, we sadly miss all such. Originally from Cardiff, in Wales, he had a grip of God's truth and was fearless in his Gospel testimony and the truth of God he learned. We enjoyed his fellowship at a Longport Conference some years ago, he made it a point to have this visit with us there at that season. We have a deep respect for these faithful messengers of the Cross at home or abroad who know their work and remain at their post. God shall richly reward all such labors."

WIS: Hartford, CT: "The recent Conference of the Charter Oak Avenue Assembly here was a real time of encouragement to the saints with a number of our older brethren present to give help in the ministry. Bre. Joyce and MacLeod called in at Waterbury, and Torrington, bre. Ferguson and Alves to Pennsauken, bro. Alves continuing with his chart on the Feasts at latter place, then most of those and one or two others were at Bryn Mawr Conference which was also cheering to His own. The editor also had a visit with the aged in the Home in Longport, we believe with mutual cheer."

• Sept. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "The Editor, accompanied by his wife, had a nice visit with the aged saints here and a week of ministry and Bible Readings with them. It is always good to see them all again and to know of God's grace by the way. The Assembly meets in the large auditorium of the Home which makes it easy for these aged ones to attend. They need our prayers as well as all the helpers of the work there. Bert Joyce gave an account of the work in Labrador here, also visited Charter Oak Assembly in Hartford where they had a Lord's Day afternoon during which he spoke on the same subject, also the Newfoundland work. Our brethren from the Maritimes have a difficult field, but a happy one in seeing God's hand with them."

• Dec. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "We commend the work here for the Aged Christians to the prayers of the Lord's people. There have been some changes of late and some of those who are caring for the saints are getting up in years. If any with nursing experience, etc., who would feel able to spend two or three months here, we are sure it would be appreciated. There is also lots of other work which may be done for any with an exercise... Many of the saints have been here for years and quite a number in the hospital infirmary here, this presents a problem. We know the Directors and their problems and have confidence in them."

WIS: Longport, N.J.: "The Home here has had some valued help from exercised younger Christians this past summer, some with nursing experience, with others willing to help in various ways as there are many such duties always requiring such help. All has been a real encouragement to the permanent workers here, relieving a little the constant onerous responsibilities. Continue to pray for our workers there and this work which fills a real niche in the responsibilities of Assemblies from which all the guests are drawn.

We have sought to maintain an interest in this work from the beginning and commend it to the exercise of those anxious to be "helpers together". Our correspondent states when writing lately, speaking of the help given these past months, "sweetness of memory follows these honorable workers in this needy field at Longport". We all have responsibilities, some heavy, but it is always a privilege to be sharers in any good work for His Name's sake."

1972

• Sept. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "We commend the Home to the prayers of His own that strength and grace may be given to the directors and workers there. Their tasks are heavy. This summer they were installing a complete heating system to replace the old plumbing, etc. They had a new furnace before bro. Moon passed away. This should help to "even" the heat throughout the rooms and long corridors. They are installing this summer a complete new roof which is a big undertaking. All this helps towards the comfort and well-being of the guests, many of them quite aged and requiring much care. We have had an interest in this Home from its inception and the exercise of our departed brother Mr. Moon has been amply rewarded by the willing help of many. Continue to pray for them all."

The aged saints here are well cared for, considerable responsibility rests on those who minister to their needs, which they do for the Lord's sake, apart from the nursing staff, etc., and those of us who are acquainted with the various conditions suggest prayer for those who have this care that, in all things, God might be glorified as His aged ones are looked after. The fact of the Assembly meeting there in the Auditorium presents an opportunity for those unable to be out otherwise to be present, this is matter for thanksgiving to our God."

• June WIS: Longport, N.J.: "The Annual Report Meeting of the Home for the Aged here was held Apr. 30th, when between 200 and 250 attended. Reports, followed by ministry, proved an encouraging time together. Bro. Ferguson stayed on for the weekend, with Gospel and Bible Readings. This is a good work which has been carried on faithfully through the years and we commend it to the prayers and fellowship of the saints generally. These aged saints require consideration and help cheerfully given by the workers there, and they appreciate the Word of God given from time to time by visiting brethren who exercise this "stewardship"."

• June T&T: "Pennsylvania: Oswald MacLeod had a week in the Philadelphia area, speaking at the monthly ministry meeting at Hatboro and also at the annual dinner at the Longport Home."

• Sept. KYM: "Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Stenhouse served the Lord for many years in Chile's capital city, Santiago. He carried on radio work and wrote many Gospel tracts in Spanish. Andrew works with Carl Ostertag to produce a Spanish Gospel paper, "Palabras Fieles". There are two assemblies in the capital city with over 360 in fellowship. Mr. and Mrs. John Shaw, commended to the Lord's work by the assembly in Santiago, continue to serve in that city. Mr. and Mrs. Stenhouse are now residing in Longport, New Jersey."

1987

• Jan. WIS: Methuen, MA: "Brother Gilbert Stewart gave a report of his work in Southern Ireland here and in the assemblies at Byfield, Cambridge and East Boston. He is in the USA to visit his father, now 97, who is a resident at the Longport Home, before returning to his field of labor before the end of the year."

• Feb. WIS: Longport, N.J.: "The annual dinner at the Gospel Hall Home for the Aged, 29th and Atlantic Avenue, will be held on April 11th at 12:30 to be followed by a report of the past year and future projects for the care of the aged Christians."

Ernest Wilson, was promoted to glory at 5 o'clock this morning from the Longport Home, New Jersey. If we could see the glory that shines on him today, the sight would cure our sorrow and wipe our tears away."
