Ardagh family
- Arthur Ardagh (b. 1746 Ireland - d. 1846 Moygleese, Co. Meath, RoI). Wife: Anne Brown (d. 1855), daughter of Samuel Brown of Fethard, "a gentleman of independent means", as per Trinity Barrie's history. Arthur was an Anglican rector at Moyglare, Co. Meath, RoI]. He was "spoken of as a man of profound scholarship, and of wild and restless temper".
- Dr. John Russell Ardagh (b. 1810 Waterford, R.I. - d. 1868 Barrie, ON) - uncle of Dr. Arthur Roach Ardagh who graduated medicine at Trinity College in Dublin, and immigrated to Canada in 1844, after two exploratory trips in 1842-1843. He started practice as a surgeon in Holland Landing, then Barrie. As per The Medical Profession in Upper Canada 1783-1850, he "soon established the reputation of a skillful surgeon, and his practice became extensive, keeping three horses in constant use. He traveled over a large tract of country, at that time sparsely settled, and the roads in many places dangerous, which occasioned him frequent accidents, several of which nearly cost him his life. He used to tell many exciting stories of his long journeys and narrow escapes." Also see Aims Aims archive]. Dr. Ardagh "was a man of a very happy temperament. His genuineness and hearty manner won him many lifelong friends, and the universal esteem and respect of the community to which he lived... in religious matters he took an active part, especially at Holland Landing, where he did much for the Church, and acted for years as warden". Wife: Anne Henrietta Gowan Ardagh (b. 1817 RoI - d. 1889 Barrie, ON). She was a sister of Senator Sir James Robert Gowan (b. 1815 Cahore, Co. Wexford, RoI - d. 1909 Barrie, ON), the first judge in the Simcoe District, which was the largest jurisdiction in Upper Canada at the time, in 1843. Sir Gowan was also the "youngest judge ever commissioned in the British empire at the time, as per his Wikipedia.

Graduated in 1827 from Trinity College in Dublin. Wife (1828 @ Dublin, RoI): Martha Anderson Ardagh (b. 1807 RoI - d. 1848 Shanty Bay, ON). An autobiography of his life may be found at this Brief Memoir, a story of a Christ-centered Anglican, the spiritual heritage of many of the earliest Plymouth Brethren, including John Nelson Darby. He was noted for his devotion to the welfare of the Bible Society, as well as the Foreign Missions Society and promoting Christ among those of Jewish heritage.

- Martha Letitia Ardagh +1891-1917+ (b. 1833 Ire.; emig. 1850). Husband (1858): Judge William Davis Ardagh (b. 1828 Co. Tipperary, RoI - d. 1893 Hoboken, Hudson, N.J.). As per FindAGrave, William immigrated to Barrie in 1848, and was called to the bar in 1855. He practiced law in Toronto with John Willoughby Crawford. In 1882, he served as deputy judge in Simcoe Co. He served as Reeve of Barrie 1864-1870, then as Mayor 1877-1881, as per Wikipedia. He also served as a Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe North at the 2nd Assembly from 1871-1874 as a Conservative (see Wiki. He later moved to Winnipeg, and served as Deputy Attorney-General and County judge, and on the Board of Police Commissioners. In 1881, William & Martha were Reformed Episcopal. By 1891, Martha's sister Emma was residing with her and children Katie & Arthur, and registered as PB. In 1893, while serving as Judge of the Eastern Judicial District of Manitoba, after spending the winter in Italy, William arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey, dying immediately afterward of a heart attack.

- Arthur James Gowan Ardagh +1891-1940 (b. 1866 Barrie, ON - d. 1940 Toronto, ON). Wife (1902 @ Toronto, ON): Violet Isabel Ord Ardagh 1902-1955 (b. 1861 Toronto, ON - d. 1955 Barrie, ON), daughter of Lewis W. Ord & Sarah Harriet Jarvis Ord. In 1881, the family resided in Toronto, and Lewis was CoE, as was their five youngest children and 2nd eldest. However, Sarah and her daughter were PB, as well as her son Arthur Blagrave Ord (b. 1855 Toronto, ON - d. 1940 Wentworth, ON), who was "Protestant" in +1891+, CoE +1901+, and PB again in +1911-1921+, and CoE in 1931. By 1911, Arthur resided in Hamilton, so likely with Hamilton Meeting Room, ON, and was employed as a bank manager. In 1885, in Binghamton, NY, he married Anna Elizabeth Child (b. 1856 Binghamton, Broome, NY - d. 1920 Curwensville, Clearfield, PA), daughter of Nial Townley Child (b. 1930 Minisink, Orange, NY) & Alvira Weston Child (b. 1832 NY - d. 1863). Nial was employed as a tanner in Nicholson, PA. In 1860, Anna resided with her family at Napanoch, Ulter, NY.

- Emma Naomi Ardagh +1891-1911+ (b. 1837 Armagh, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland - d. 1921 Toronto, ON). In 1911, she was residing in Barrie with siblings (including Martha) and a cousin, and the house cook, Sarah Iscod +1911+ (b. 1852 Ire.), was PB. See Iscod family. Violet's sister Mabel Ord +1911-1966+ also resided there at the time. At the time of her death in 1921, Emma was at 10 Hawthorne Ave., Toronto. That year, Mabel resided with Arthur & Violet, as did a hired cook named Agnes Reid +1921+ (b. 1894 Scotland) who was also PB.

In 1862, while residing in Hamilton, Dr. Ardagh was serving as coroner in Orillia, a position his son Dr. Edward Arthur Ardagh held later. In 1891, Arthur was registered as PB, whereas his wife and son Ainslie were CoE, and his daughter Edith was Reformed Episcopal. In 1881, no religion was given for anyone in the family.
