Rodgers family

David served the Army during WWII, then met his wife at Wheaton College (in the same class as Mary Lou Leonard Engle, Jim Elliot and his wife Annalea. He became a businessman in Chicago, then by 1962 became an elementary schoolteacher, after earning a Masters in Education at NIU.

He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1966 to become a co-founder of the Bible Chapel, serving as its librarian among other tasks. He retired from teaching in 1988, and worked as a "full-time volunteer" as the assistant to Dr. Daniel H. Smith, then President of Emmaus Bible College until 2003 when he became the director of mailing and inventory at the Bright Lights ministry until his death at the age of 97. David & Annalea's descendants are founders of a discipleship initiative for young adult girls called Bright Lights. Three of their grandchildren have authored books encouraging young believers in their faith. See Authors#M

  • David Leroy Rodgers 1966-2024 (b. 1926 Omaha, NE - d. 1-12-2024 Marion, Linn, IA), son of Willard Linius Rodgers (1904-1994 Omaha, NE) & Genevieve Adessa Robinson Rodgers (b. 1906 Underwood, McLean, ND - d. 1996 Speegleville, McLennan, TX). See David's obit. 1944 & 1950 @ Wheaton, IL. He was in the same class at Wheaton College with James "Jim" Elliot (d. 1956 Ecuador). In 1944, David was employed (living in Wheaton), with his father (living in Omaha), at Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T. Willard's role was as an inspector. His father was born in Denmark. Genevieve lived in Massena, Cass, IA in 1910.
  • Willa "Annalea" Carson Rodgers +2014 (b. 1925 Chariton, Lucas, IA - d. 2014 CR, IA), daughter of Earl Roscoe Carson (b. 1891 English Twp., Lucas, IA - d. 1968 Chariton, IA) & Nora Viola Sheldon Carson (b. 1896 Stevensville, Ravalli, MT - d. 1975 Chariton, IA).
