Husband: Dr. Donald James Ahrenholz (b. 1934 Waterloo, IA - d. 2019 Wheaton, IL), son of Uke Ahrenholz (b. 1890 Petkum, Germany - d. 1975 Waterloo, IA) & Tjaaktje Oudekerk Ahrenhoz (b. 1899 Midwolda, Netherlands - d. 1976 Waterloo, IA). Donald attended Drake University & Wheaton College and graduated from the University of Iowa college of medicine at Iowa City. Margaret graduated Allen Memorial Hospital Lutheran School of Nursing, and Wheaton College. As per his obit, after residencies at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines (general surgery) and Medical College of Wisconsin (plastic surgery), he entered practice in West Point, N.Y. (U.S. Military Academy), then Cedar Falls & Waterloo until retiring in 1998 to Wheaton, Illinois. He served as an elder in churches in Waterloo, Cedar Falls & Wheaton, and on the board of the Cedar Falls Bible Conference, helped bring Logos Bookstores to Cedar Falls, and was a founding member of the Young Life committee in Cedar Falls & Waterloo.

Wife (1968 @ Downing Avenue Gospel Chapel, Waterloo, IA): Janice "Jan" Kay Ahrenholz, daughter of Henry Oscar Ahrenholz (b. 1921 Beaver, Grundy, IA - d. 1953 Waterloo, IA)) & Catherine Edith Hollopeter Ahrenholz (1922-1997 Waterloo, IA). Janice was a sister of Dr. Donald Ahrenholz (who married Douglas Dunkerton's sister Margaret). In 1968, Douglas was a math teacher at Hoover Junior High School, and Janice was a 2nd grade teacher at Washington Irving Elementary. Catherine Ahrenholz's mother was Mary Dawson Leask Hollopeter (b. 1889 Mason City, IA - d. 1975 Waterloo, IA), a daughter of William Leask, Sr. (1855-1940), who was Douglas Dunkerton's paternal great-grandfather.

      • Grace Janette Leask +1922+ (b. 1918 Waterloo, IA - d. 2008 Carol Stream, Chicago, DuPage, IL). As per her obit, Grace graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in teaching in 1940, and a master's degree in clothing and textiles from Michigan State University. She taught high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for over 30 years, and was a longtime member of Wauwautosa Community Chapel, WI, and Bethany Chapel, Wheaton, IL. She donated many hours to decorate and landscape at Windsor Park Manor.
    • George Dowell Leask, Sr. (b. 1896 Mason City, Cerro Gordon, IA - d. 1972 Claremont, L.A., CA). He was employed in 1930 in Oakland as an electrician. Wife (1922 @ Oakland, Alameda, CA): Edna B Anderson Leask (b. 1904 NE), daughter of Edward N. Anderson (b. IA) & Hannah Johnson Anderson (b. Sweden). George & Edna's wedding was witnessed by H.M. Rew of Berkeley, and Jennie Cochrane of Oakland. The ceremony was officiated by William Edward Clyatt "W.E.C." Roberts (b. 1865 Kings Norton, Birmingham, West Midlands / Worcestershire, England; emig. 1888; d. 1926 Piedmont, Alameda, CA) of Bethany Hall in Oakland, husband of Alice Maud Tapson Roberts (b. 1872 Kilburn, Mid., Eng. - d. 1945 Santa Clara, CA) and was a self-employed lighting engineer (in 1910).

Matthews family

Edgar was employed as a salesman for men's tailor-made shirts for many years in Waterloo, relocating to the assembly retirement home in Claremont, California just in February of 1960. In 1897, he lived in Garnett, Kansas. As early as 1917, he resided at 206 Leland Ave., which was inherited by his daughter Ruth prior to 1960. William R. Simpson (L.A., CA) officiated Edgar's memorial at Downing Avenue Gospel Chapel.

  • Edgar Greeley Matthews +1927-1935+ (b. 1869 Pleasanton, Linn, KS - d. 1960 Claremont, L.A., CA), son of John Coleman Matthews (b. 1834 IN - d. 1920 Des Moines, IA) & Malissa Rilwood Rhoades Matthews (b. 1839 Ottumwa, Wapello, IA; m. 1867 Brooklin, Linn, KS; d. 1917 Waterloo, IA). John Matthews was employed in 1880 as a cattle dealer. John & Malissa Matthews' wedding in 1867 was at the house of Caleb Rhoades, officiated by J.E. Whitman.
  • 1st wife (1898 @ East Waterloo, IA): Kate Mae Blake Matthews (b. 1872/1873 Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, IA - d. 1911 Waterloo, IA), daughter of Thomas Blake (b. 1828 Butleigh, Somerset, Eng. - d. 1896 Waterloo, IA) & Isabella Tucker Blake (b. 1825 Butleigh, Eng.; m. 1850 Butleigh, Eng.; d. 1923 Cedar Falls, IA) in Oelwein, IA. Isabella moved to Cedar Falls in 1920. Edgar & Kate's wedding was officiated by Jerry Mosher. Thomas Blake was employed in Cedar Falls as a blacksmith as early as 1860. In 1911, Kate died suddenly after an operation earlier that day, while Edgar was away on business. Her three sisters all married into the Garrett family. Thomas & Isabella Blake were married in a CoE church in 1850, emigrating later that year to New York, arriving on May 15 via the Cosmo ship sailing from Bristol intended for Auburn, NY. Isabella resided initially with Nancy Goff & Sarah Hamilton with C.F. & Susan Mowry. in Waterloo, Seneca, NY.

    • Ruth Katherine Matthews Craven (b. 1900 Waterloo, IA - d. 1980 Santa Clara Co., CA). Husband (1929 @ Waterloo, IA): Samuel Craven (b. 1902 Londonderry, N.I. - d. 1988 San Jose, CA), son of John Joseph Craven (b. 1885 Terrington, York, Eng.) & Elizabeth McCandless Craven (b. 1880 N.I.). The Craven family emigrated in 1912. At the time of their wedding, Samuel resided in Chicago, employed as a bank teller. His father, John, was self-employed with a coal & ice business at 2818 Van Buren (his residence was 2816) in 1942. Samuel & Ruth lived in Oak Park in Chicago, Illinois until 1933-1935 when they moved to Waterloo. The wedding was officiated by a Baptist pastor.
      • Edgar Samuel "Ted" Craven (b. 1933 Oak Park, Chicago, Cook, IL - d. 2010 San Jose, CA). Wife: Patricia L. Bury Craven (b. 1932 - 2020 San Jose, CA). Memorial @ Saratoga Federated Church in CA. Edgar knew the Lord, and was employed in the field of electronics for 46 years, in system design and testing, including working on satellite payload systems for Loral & Lockheed. He was a HAM radio hobbyist 60 years, and a part-time professional photographer, specializing in weddings and portraits.
      • Margaret Ruth "Peggy" Craven Nessly (b. 1935 Waterloo, IA - d. 1997 Raleigh, Wake, NC). Husband (1957): Eugene Charles "Gene" Nessly, Jr. (b. 1931 Robbinsdale, Minneapolis, Hennepin, MN - d. 2016 Cottage Grove, Washington, MN), son of Eugene Charles Nessly (b. Guilford, Jo Daviess, IL - d. 1965 Minneapolis, MN) & Dorothy Marie Hoffman Nessly (b. 1903 Westfield, Sauk, WI - d. 1990 San Antonio, TX). Dorothy Nessly was a former member of Valley Baptist Church in Minneapolis.
    • Florence Ella Matthews Dunkerton (b. 1902 Waterloo, IA - d. 1951 Baltimore, [[Maryland|MD). Husband: Roger Keith Dunkerton (b. 1911 Dunkerton, Black Hawk, IA - d. 2002 Swannanoa, Buncombe, NC), son of James Andrew Dunkerton (1884-1927 Dunkerton, IA) & Barbara Jane Leask Dunkerton-Otzen (b. 1884 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, IA - d. 1973 Waterloo, IA). Barbara was a daughter of William Leask (b. 1855 South Shields, South Tyneside, Eng. - d. 1940 Mason City, IA) & Alice Ramsay Kerr Leask (b. 1877 Edinburgh, Scot. - d. 1935 Waterloo, IA). See Leask family. James Dunkerton was a son of Thomas R. Dunkerton (1856-1924 Dunkerton, IA) who founded the Dunkerton Gospel Hall, IA in his home.

Wife: Grace Lorene Akerson Matthews (b. 1902 Ladd, Bureau, IL - d. 1987 San Diego, CA), daughter of Edward Gottfrid Akerson (1879-1945 Ottumwa, Wapello, IA) & Gertrude Pearl Holland Akerson (b. 1882 Center Twp., Russell, KS - d. 1941 Ottumwa, IA).

Wife: Ruth Frances Sommerville Matthews-Haynes (b. 1909 Kansas City, MO - d. 1994 Los Angeles, CA), daughter of William Charles Sommerville (b. 1874 Wishart, Scot. - d. 1931 Kansas City, MO) & Jessie M. Baker Sommerville (m. 1901).

William was employed in 1910 managing his father-in-law Caleb J. Baker's tent/awning business "Baker-Lockwood Co.) in KCMO. William's parents settled initially in Watcheer, Iowa. William studied mine engineering in school, becoming an expert in that field, then settled in KCMO in 1895, starting for Baker-Lockwood as an elevator operator, and was last as its president, and in fellowship with the Troost Avenue Gospel Hall, KCMO. Baker-Lockwood was founded in 1888. Dr. Walter L. Wilson, co-founder of Calvary Bible College, was brother-in-law to Jessie Sommerville.

Pallbearers (active & honorary) at William Sommerville's memorial service were all employees of Baker-Lockwood, including W.L. Mellor, J.F. Rodabaugh, Forrest E. Gill, George Andrews, Will Leishman, George Parker, Sterling Short, Roy Smith, Bert Capp, A.A. Larned, Edward Armfield & A.I. Graham.

  • 2nd wife (1913 @ Bay City, MI): Jessie Linklater/Limkerter Wishart Matthews +1927+ (b. 1871 Hamilton, ON - d. 1935), daughter of James Wishart (b. 1844 Sandwick, Orkney, Scot.) & Wilhelmina Firth Wishart (b. 1848 Finstown, Firth & Stenness, Orkney, Scot.; m. 1869 Firth & Stenness, Scot.; d. 1936 Dallas, TX). James Wishart, Sr. was employed a carpenter. Jessie's brother was Dr. James Corregal Wishart (b. 1875 Hamilton, ON), a chiropractor in Dallas.
