Early Families 1888-1899

Four families emigrated from Aberdeen, Scotland in 1888, settling initially in Montreal, and helped form the backbone of the small St. Antoine assembly. The Robertson family removed in 1899 to Toronto, Ontario.

  • Christine Young Masson 1890-1891+ (b. 1869 Montreal, QC), daughter of John Young (b. 1830 Scot.) & Agnes Young (b. 1832 Scot., Presbyterians in 1871. John and Christine were married in 1890 in Montreal.

Robertson family

    • William "Bill" Fowler Robertson II 1894-1901+ (b. 1894 Montreal, QC) later operated a grocery store in Toronto, and authored The Road Home, on the work in Scotland and elsewhere, published in 1983 by Clarion Press. On June 7, 1917, Bill married Gladys May Walker (b. 1896 St. Catharines, ON) in Lincoln, ON. Gladys was the daughter of Charles Walker and his wife Jean. Bill's wedding was in a Presbyterian church in St. Catharines.
    • John Nixon Robertson 1896-1902 (b. 1896 Hibernia Rd., Montreal, QC) served 1914-1918 with the CEF. After the War, by 1921, he was employed as a salesman with the railway.
    • George Robertson 1898-1902 (b. 1898 Montreal, QC). In 1921, George was a self-employed dentist, living with several of his grown siblings with his parents in St. Catharines.
    • Ruth Robertson Hagerman 1900-1902 (b. 1902 Montreal, QC - d. 1978 St. Catharines, Niagara, ON) married in 1923 in Lincoln, ON, Walter Scott Hagerman (b. 1880 Belleville, Hastings, ON - d. 1940 St. Catharines, Lincoln, ON), son of Alva Lake Hagerman (b. 1857 Rawdon, Hastings, ON) and Elizabeth Gowsell Hagerman (b. 1854 Thurlow, Hastings, ON). In 1881, Alva was a Methodist maker of carriages.
    • Richard Menzies Robertson 1902 (b. 1902 Montreal, QC - d. 1978 St. Catharines, ON), employed 1921 with the railway.
