William Sherrard II

William Sherrard was born in May 1892 in Gortcorbery, Londonderry, Ireland to William John Sherrard (1865-1899) and Elizabeth Dickson Sherrard (1859-1940). His father died when he was 7 years old.

Brethren Links

In a 1911 Ireland Census, William identified as Brethren, at the age of 19. Others in his family identifying as Brethren were his sister Hannah Jane, 26, and at some juncture, their brother Robert Andrew Sherrard, co-founder Hillside Bible Chapel, CA in the mid-1950's.

Believer's Magazine (1973 July) had an obit for William that indicated that he gave his life to Christ around 1908, and received in the assembly at Ardmore near Limavady, then in the one in Limavady for many years.  Then from 1948-1973 in the assembly in Coleraine.

He was reported to be "a quiet, consistent brother whose good testimony in the country was manifested by the large number who attended the funeral.  He was a man who had an interest in the Gospel, prayed for his neighbors and friends, and saw all his family saved early in life."

Marriage

William married Mary Storey, aka "Minnie" in Sept. 1914 in their hometown. She was saved in 1916, and given to hospitality, and together they led all seven of their children to Christ, while raising their children in the Brethren.

Children

They had seven children during their marriage, all making professions for Christ while within the Brethren.

• Elizabeth Sherrard Martin (1924-2001) - aka "Lizzie", married James Martin (1929-?), and had one son together; Lizzie died in 2001 in Ballymena, Antrim, NIR at the age of 77. James was born in Banbridge, Down, NIR, and died in Ballymena at an unknown date.
• Herbert Sherrard (1925-1970) married Irene Magerison (b. 1934 Lancaster, England). Herbert died, 45, in Coleraine, Londonderry, NIR. Irene died in Unionville, Toronto, Canada.
• Mary Emily Mamie Sherrard McCullagh (1926-2004) married James "Jim" McCullagh, and they had one son. Mary died in Limavady.
• William Aylmer Sherrard (1928-1981) married Marlene. William died in Coleraine, Londonderry, NIR.
• Jean Sherrard Davis (b. 1931) married Graham Davis, they had one son. Jean died in Belfast, Antrim, NIR.
• James Ernest Sherrard (b. 1932) - aka "Ernie", married Jean Elizabeth Workman (b. 1942). They had one daughter, Jennifer Sherrard, born in 1967, who died in Ballyclare, Antrim, NIR. Ernie and Jean both died in Coleraine, Londonderry, NIR.
• Unknown 7th child.

Death

William's wife Minnie died unexpectedly in Coleraine in 1950, an obit was given in The Believer's Magazine that indicated she was saved in 1916, and given to hospitality. It was the source of the report that William and all seven children were saved. William died on June 3, 1973 in Coleraine at the age of 81.
