History

There was a French open brethren assembly in Lennoxville begun in 1974.

In the spring of 1971, commended worker Cyril Shontoff linked up with Rosaire Labbé who had just completed a year of studies at Bethel Bible School. The following year they were working together and by the fall of 1972, the latter had settled at Thetford Mines from which he reported the recent salvation of ten souls. An second assembly was begun in the city which unfortunately was not destined to last for long.

On February 10, 1974, a new assembly was formed in Lennoxville, led by Cyril Shontoff and another brother, both of whom had withdrawn from their respective assemblies in Sherbrooke and Thetford Mines. Later that year, Sherbrooke withdrew its letter of commendation for Cyril Shontoff. This was contested by the latter’s original commending assembly in Toronto with the result that the brother was enabled to continue serving as a commended worker in the province.

By the spring of 1977, only two couples, including the Shontoffs, were left at the Lennoxville assembly which apparently closed that summer. The two couples reintegrated into the Sherbrooke assembly.
