Douglas Ibbotson, Savannah, Georgia:
"Your kind letter received with gift enclosed from Letters of Interest Fund. It surely is gratifying to know of the blessing the Lord is giving to this work. No doubt it is entailing a lot of work but the Lord will richly bless you and all who have part in it. I look to see the work grow and increase in its usefulness. The people in this section of Georgia where we have labored with the tent are generally very poor and hardly know what money is. Nearly everything is done by trade, either labor or crops.
Thus far we have been spared any attack of Malaria Fever though we have felt the symptoms at times. The unpalatable diet and lack of proper foods cause much of it among the natives here. Then too the unsanitary conditions of the homes help it on. At present Jo (my wife) is on the back porch trying to fan the flies and gnats from the table where our host is preparing the dinner. There are half a dozen or more chickens under the table and several cats. A barefooted colored woman is helping with the house work always with a big chew of tobacco in her mouth. But one overlooks these conditions to reach them in the Gospel."
