History
According to Robert Peterson, the Port Daniel meeting was the fruit of efforts by Hugh Campbell and Alex Stewart. He gives the date as “about 1915”. Goodwill (Goody) Campbell and his wife Daphne, active in the assemblies of the area over many years, suggest the year 1920, following tent meetings two years earlier conducted by the above-named brethren. Meetings were first held in Ramier’s Store until a hall was built by Charlie Walker in 1921 on Willie Mann’s property.
Of the latter person Donald Huntington says, “The only person I ever knew from Port Daniel was Mr. Willie Mann, who, in spite of the fact that all his family including his wife had turned their backs on the Lord, remained faithful to the end of a very long life.” The assembly apparently ceased operation circa 1955, although it remained in the Waltericks book in 1960. A dozen years later we learn that “the small hall at Port Daniel West is to be removed to make room for the highway, no one seems to know of any living trustee.” No one seems to recall what finally became of this hall either.
