Armistead was, as a young man, one of the charter members of one of the earliest YMCA chapters formed in the U.S., in Bloomington, Illinois in 1855, as per his Bloomington-Normal YMCA and his obit at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/112410517 FindAGrave]. He studied ministry at the Normal University, and his obit states that in "later years he served as an interdenominational lay-preacher on numerous occasions". Children: Mrs. Cecil Robert (Clinton, KY) & Armistead Mason Barry, Jr. (b. 1890 MN - d. 1977 Chatham, ON).

Armistead's paternal grandfather was William Taylor Barry (b. 1784 Lunenburg, VA - d. 1835 Liverpool, England), who in 1829 was appointed U.S. Postmaster General by President Andrew Jackson, and the only member of the Cabinet to remain in office after the "Petticoat Affair" which induced other cabinet secretaries to resign, as per FindAGrave. In 1835, he was appointed the U.S. Ambassador to Spain, but enroute he died in London.

His son John Basse I (b. 1616 London, Eng.; emig. 1623; m. 1638 Nasemond Indian Tribe, VA; d. 1699 Norfolk, VA) & Elizabeth Keziah Tucker Basse (b. 1618 Mansemond, VA - d. 1676 Norfolk, VA). WWII veteran, Pacific theatre Navy, awarded the Bronze Star. Marvin & Sudie were married by Rev. J.W. Bruner of the Second Baptist of Paducah.
Mary Ann Marlow McDonald +1982-2016 (b. 1922 Cairo, Alexander, IL - d. 2016 Clinton, KY), daughter of Dennis Marlow (b. 1899 Caledonia, Trigg, KY) & Anna Louise Casey Marlow (b. 1902 St. Louis, MO - d. 1963 Evansville, Vanderburgh, IN). In 1942, Dennis was employed under Lester Carlyle Mahaffee (1898-1960) of the Federal Barge Line in Cairo, until 1943 when he and Anna relocated to Evansville. The Zbindens were among those who established the first PB assembly in the U.S., at Alton, Illinois about 1847, and were also with the Greenville Meeting Room.
