John was born Dec. 23, 1867 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.

John's wife was Anne "Elizabeth" Jones Nichols (b. 1873 Evesham, Worcestershire, Eng. - d. 1961 San Mateo Co., CA).

Elizabeth had a younger sister, Emma Jones (1870-1872) that died at Martley.

Death
John spent his final years living at Menlo Park, and died on June 16, 1960 at Redwood City, California. E. Sheritt of Oakland, credited in John's obit as the "standing pastor of the Plymouth Brethren Church" officiated the memorial service. Besides John & Dorothy's four sons and four daughters, surviving in 1960 were 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
