History

Mrs. John A. McCarthy, aka Jessie Mabel Hatt McCarthy-Boyden lived in Eastport, Washington, Maine, from 1914-1923, and was affiliated with the Tunbridge-Wells exclusive brethren. She was born Mar. 15, 1882 in Letang, Charlotte, New Brunswick, and died Feb. 20, 1958 in Eastport. She was the daughter of James T. Hatt (b. 1844 N.B.) and his wife Maria V. Mahar Hatt (1856-1910 Utopia, Charlotte, N.B.). She had minimally five siblings:

  • Thomas Persie Hatt (b. 1874)
  • Artimus James Hatt (1879-1940)
  • Wellington Edgar Hatt (1886-1969)
  • Anna Evangeline Hatt Cooke (1876-1955)
  • Curtiss Elsmore Hatt (1884-1962)

Her first husband, John A. McCarthy (1859-1930), was the son of William McCarthy (b. 1815 Ireland) and Susan Elizabeth (b. 1827 Ireland). He and his siblings were all born in New Brunswick. Siblings:

  • William McCarthy (b. 1852)
  • Leonard McCarthy (b. 1856)
  • Annie McCarthy (b. 1860)
  • Laura McCarthy (b. 1862 - d. 1891) lived in Eastport, ME by 1880.
  • Menetta M. "Nettie" McCarthy (b. 1866 West Isles, Charlotte, N.B. - d. 1946 New York City, N.Y.)
  • Addell McCarthy (b. 1868)

They were married in 1904, and lived 49 years in Eastport.

Their children:

  • Frederick Warren McCarthy (b. 1904 - d. 1993 Eastport, ME) m. Bertha Richter (1903-1998). Bertha was a member of First UMC of North Andover, MA.
  • Harold S. McCarthy - Vista, CA
  • Mrs. Stanley Lank - Welchpool, ME

After Jessie's husband's death, in 1931 she remarried Ira Delpha Boyden (b. 1878 Perry, Washington, ME - d. 1959 Eastport, ME), the son of Delpha Boyden (b. 1837 North Perry, Washington, ME - d. 1904 Boston, MA) and Annie M. Pottle Boyden (1855-1943 Perry, ME).

Brethren/Church affiliation

At the time of Jessie's death, she was a member of the North Baptist Church of Eastport, and the service was officiated by Rev. Roy Bruce of that church.
