Greenville Meeting Room, IL

Greenville Gospel Hall, aka the Greenville Meeting Room, is reportedly the oldest surviving Brethren assembly in North America, founded in 1854, and with links to assemblies in St. Louis that pre-date 1848. It is affiliated historically with the Tunbridge Wells brethren, and presently meets in an unlisted residential home.

Other (Presumed) Alum

  • David Henri Zbinden 1850-1873 (1788-1880)'s wife Jeanne Philis Madeleine (1792-1840) died in Aubonne, Vaud, Switzerland. It is presumed that because David died in Indianapolis (where his son Louis' family was living in 1880) that he likely emigrated to the U.S. in 1850 with his son's family, and therefore may have been in fellowship at Greenville:
    • Louis Francois Abram David Zbinden (1821-1888) & his wife Louise DeBonneville (1823-1884) were likely in fellowship either here (or nearby Highland) from 1850-1873 (then relocated to Indianapolis). Their children:
      • David Harold Zbinden 1852-1873 (1852-1923) served as corr. @ Nashville Meeting Room, TN 1903-1905. He died in Los Angeles, CA.
      • "Mattie" Martha E. Zbinden 1856-1873 (1856-1910) married David L. Truan (b. 1860) and died in Chattanooga, TN, buried in Knoxville, TN.
      • Clement Louis Zbinden I 1859-1873 (1859-1912) served as corr. @ Knoxville Meeting Room, TN 1889-1895, and at Chattanooga Meeting Room, TN 1896-1902, and at Birmingham Meeting Room, AL 1903-1905+ (possibly until his death in 1912).
      • Louis Theophilus Zbinden 1864-1873 (1864-1945) served as corr. @ Corunna Meeting Room, MI in 1905, and at the Owosso Meeting Room, MI by 1908.
      • "Sylvasus" Sylvain Jean Zbinden 1850-1873 (1849-1874) was born in Switzerland, died in Indianapolis, at the age of 25, while employed as a carpenter.  He married Helene Troillet (1852-1922), and they had three children: David Henry (1873-1929), Ernest Sylvanious (1875-1960) and Edwin (1879-1969), all born in Illinois, but unsure if raised at Greenville.
