Harold Spencer Hall

William John Hall was born about 1869 at Oxford West, Oxford, Ontario, Canada, the son of William Hall (b. 1824 England) & Ellen Baker Hall (b. 1834 England), his parents were registered Baptist in 1871. In 1891, at Oxford, William married Isabella "Bella" Taylor (b. 1866 ON), they identified as Baptists at the time, but her family was registered as "non-sectarian Church of God", and they were living at Blenheim, Brant, ON. In 1901, William & Bella were living in Oxford, and identified as R.C. They were credited in their daughter Dorothy's obit (Leader-Post, Regina, SK, May 27, 1935) as pioneers of the (Mossbank, SK) district.

By 1911, William & Bella were living at Stadacona, Moose Jaw, SK and identified as PB, to which there is presently an open brethren (OB) Stadacona Gospel Chapel that was started by 1908 as Moose Jaw Gospel Hall. There has also been an exclusive meeting (TW) at nearby Regina since 1914, with brethren living there as early as 1889, as well as closer to Stadacona in Chaplin, Morse, Pangman and Saint Boswells for brief periods.

William & Bella had several children (their eldest being Harold):

  • Harold Spencer Hall (b. 1892 Ingersoll, Oxford, ON - d. 1974 Winnipeg, MB), never married, lived in Winnipeg 1922-1974. He was recognized in 1905 (at the age of 13) in the PB (later EB-TW) children's publication Messages of Love for answering Bible questions correctly.   • Emilie May (Mary Elizabeth) Hall (b. 1893 Ingersoll, Oxford, ON)
  • Grace Olive Hall Polzin (b. 1894 Ingersoll, Oxford, ON - d. 1935 Winnipeg, MB). Olive was employed as a hospital nurse in 1916 at Moose Jaw, living with her parents. 1922 @ Mossbank, SK married Leo Albert Polzin, wedding officiated by a Rev. Mr. Culp. Residence @ Regina, SK in 1922.
  • Helen Ruth Hall Silverson (b. 1896 Ingersoll, Oxford, ON - d. 1989 Moose Jaw, SK). Husband: Arthur Lorne Silverson (b. 1894 Hamilton, ON - d. 1956 Moose Jaw, SK). Helen's memorial @ First Baptist Church of Moose Jaw, SK, Ernest Stevenson officiated, this is where she and her husband were in fellowship for many years. Lorne was one of the first boy scouts in Moose Jaw, and attended the coronation of King George V. He also served overseas with the Royal Flying Corps during WWI, and with the Prairie Airways during WWII. In 1937, he inherited the Moose Jaw Marble & Granite Works.
  • Dorothy Hall Mitchell (b. 1897 Ingersoll, Oxford, ON - d. 1935 Mossbank, SK); 1927 @ Winnipeg, MB she married William James Mitchell (b. 1881 Turnberry Twp., Huron, ON - d. 1978 Mossbank, SK), son of William Edward Mitchell (b. 1851 East Gwillimbury, York, ON - d. 1914 Wingham, Huron, ON) & Sarah Matilda A. Watson Mitchell (b. 1863 Hibbert, Perth, ON - d. 1920 Wingham, ON). Their wedding was held in the home of her parents in Winnipeg, officiated by Rev. Spitzer among 40 friends. Memorial services for Dorothy held at Mossbank United church, with Dr. T. Jackson Wray officiating, and Rev. J. McLaughlin (Moose Jaw, SK) gave the sermon. Dorothy taught school in Estell, Marchmont and Mossbank.
  • John Oliver Hall (b. 1899 Oxford, ON - d. 1913 Resthaven, Moose Jaw, SK).
  • Kathleen Marjorie Hall Allenback (b. 1901 Oxford, ON - d. 1963 Winnipeg, MB). Husband: Carl Allenback (d. 1971 Winnipeg, MB).
  • Isabelle Hall (b. 1905 ON)
  • Jessie Evelyn Hall Lamont (b. 1905 ON - d. 1991 Langley, B.C.). Husband: Oliver Hewitt Lamont (b. 1889 North Norfolk, MB - d. 1973 Langley, B.C.), son of Alexander Lamont (b. 1861 Saugeen, Bruce, ON - d. 1939 Beaver Creek, MacGregor, MB) & Harriett Amelia Martin Lamont (b. 1861 Listowel, Perth, ON - d. 1942 Michichi, Strathmore, AB).
