Peter John Fudickar

Johann Peter Fudikar (emigrated as Peter John Fudickar) 1884-1915 was born June 13, 1850 near Berlin, Germany, the son of William & Christina (Loos) Fudickar, natives of Dusseldorf.

Peter served less than the two year requirement of military service in Germany, due to poor health. In 1884, he and his family (wife & 6 children) emigrated directly from New York to Pawnee, Kansas where Mr. Fuckickar settled a claim which he acquired land 1.5 miles west of Larned, Kansas, purchasing presumably the same plot in 1885, and presumed to be the founder of the Larned Meeting Room, KS. He died on September 12, 1915 in Larned, and was buried there, as is his wife and several children.

Peter had several siblings, including Gustav & Bertha, who were still living in Vohwinkel in 1937, as well as Ernest C. Fudickar (b. 1857 Dusseldorf, Germany - d. 1937 Monroe, LA), a pioneer businessman who emigrated at the age of 17 to Monroe, Louisiana, where he founded the "Consolidated Ice Company", one of the first industries of its kind in that area of the state. Ernest was affiliated at the end of his life with a local Grace Episcopal Church. In 1885, he operated a grocery store on South Grand Street in Monroe, including liquor and tobacco. His sons operated a related Bastrop Ice & Storage Co.

On Feb. 6, 1873, at "Evangelisch, Sonnborn, Rheinland, Prussia", Peter married Sophie Charlotte Bruchhaus, the daughter of Carl Bruchhaus & Maria Christine Kemmann Bruchhaus.

Four of Peter & Charlotte's eight children died under the age of 25, including their three youngest who were born in Kansas, Nellie (1895), Robert (1889-1913) & Willie (1886-1895), and their elder sister Charlotte Wilhelmine (1879-1890).
