John Govan was an itinerant worker (1884-1967), among the open brethren. He was saved in [[Scotland]] in 1904when he was eighteen, commended in 1919 by the assembly at Saginaw, [[Michigan]], and in his later years (1950-1967) at the [[Stark Road Gospel Hall, MI|West Chicago Assembly]] in the Detroit area. His wife's name He married Bessie M. Sinclair (1881-1973). =Children=They had one son, John Robert Govan, known better as "Robert", born Aug. 14, 1913 in Saginaw, and died Feb. 11, 1994 in Farmington Hills, Oakland, [[Michigan]]. Robert married Hazel Eleanor Griffin on Dec. 7, 1940 in Detroit, she was Bessieborn Feb. 16, 1915 in Detroit, and died in Oct. 1991. Robert and Hazel were in fellowship at Covenant Baptist Church, a multi-cultural American Baptist church in West Bloomfield, Michigan. They had two daughters, Shirley Govan Pagett, who lived to be 92and Mary Govan Black.
