This small assembly began in the fall of 1980. The first official meeting was held in the home of Adrien Durant. By the following year the group was meeting in Beauport, a suburb of Quebec City. There were five families gathered together, all having left denominational churches of the area. The assembly was and is known simply as Chrétiens réunis au nom de Jésus-Christ.
John Clark was the catalyst for the beginning of this work. Howard Forbes, Vincent Davey and Charles-Eugène Boulianne were of help over a period of a year and a half leading up its beginning. Cyril Shontoff was in the picture about the same time and continued visiting until his home call. Jean-Paul Berney was opposed to the assembly being listed in News of Quebec, there being one assembly already in existence in the area. Bruce Sommacal, whose father was one of the founders of MSC Canada, having left the assemblies for the Baptists prior to 1980, attended this assembly from time to time after it had begun. In more recent years, Gerald Boisvert has occasionally given a helping hand.
The assembly has always been happy to receive believers, and benefit from their visits, independent of what group of Christians they might come from. It is expected that any such visitors would be faithful to the Lord, living holy lives and holding to sound doctrine. A spirit of humility has always opened the doors to the assembly to all who desired to fellowship here.
