In 1841, Caleb's father Isaac was a hawker (salesman) in Hailsham. By 1851, he was more specifically a traveling "chapman hawker" (booklet salesman), and in 1871 as a "general dealer" (operated a general store). In 1872, Caleb was co-founder of [https://www.westernawningcompany.com/ Baker-Lockwood Western Awning Co.], initially in Chicago.It is said that when the Great Chicago Fire happened in 1871, their stock survived as they had buried it in the river. After the fire, they relocated to Kansas City in 1872.
CalebIn 1850, Darwin Roe (Eliza's wife 1st husband) resided in Barker, Broome, NY which is part of the Binghamton metro. Eliza's first motherhusband was Darwin S. Roe (b. 1835 NYC, NY -ind. 1876 Chicago, IL), son of Alanson Roe (b. 1808 Dutchess Co., NY -law (d. 1899 Coventry, NY) & Louisa Smith Roe(b. 1810 Chenango Co., NY - d. 1888 Coventry, NY) .
