1930's

1933

  • 1933-10 AA: Sowing and Reaping: Michigan:

"The bus and the tent have been in continuous operation in Western Michigan since June 18th and have been used together. Four brethren (F.W. Schwartz, Leonard Sheldrake, Tom Wilkie and W.J. Pell) took responsibility, and several younger brethren from Toronto have helped. In this way the gospel has been preached in Sheridan, Casnovia, Manton, Cadillac, Northport, Sutton's Bay, Leland, Kalkaska, Sherman City, etc. At present (Sept. 12) the tent is pitched near Grand Rapids and encouragement is given by large attendances at the meetings conducted by J. Nieboer and W. Pell.

In a recent letter from Mr. T. Wilkie, he says: "I believe the season's work has been a blessing to many. The Lord has permitted us to meet a few now, but I am sure we shall meet others in the glory, who have been reached through the gospel." At the time of the tent meetings in Pleasant Lake, some were saved, and the Lord's people were gathered in assembly testimony. Brethren T. Dobbin and William Ferguson came later with the Bible Carriage, and helped the Christians, and also saw others, who had been troubled, led to the Lord. Meetings continued each Lord's Day in Sherman City, and there is hope of an assembly being formed there also. In Detroit, Messrs. J.P. Conaway and George Gould, Jr. had seven weeks of largely attended tent meetings with blessing in the gospel."

1950's

1955

  • 1955-2 T&T: Detroit, MI - "F.W. Mehl writes of laboring during the past year, mostly in Mesick, Mich., in a tent and a portable hall, and an assembly has been formed. The correspondent is Charles Marvin, Rt. 2, Cadillac, Mich."

1958

  • 1958-10 WiS: "The Assembly, formerly meeting in Mesick, has purchased an old church building and meetings, henceforth, will be held here. They were having an opening all-day meeting Lord's Day, Sept. 7th. Brother Mehl has been laboring in this district considerably."
  • 1958-11 WiS: "Bro. Mehl reports a good opening day in the Assembly's new location here (formerly Mesick). The Word was appreciated by those attending from Alpena, Midland, Saginaw and Detroit. This is a small assembly but they seem to have a desire to continue in God's ways, which is good."
  • 1958-12 WiS: "William Ferguson visited the small assembly here. The assembly is young, but desires God's ways and it is a joy to seek to help such. Brethren from Bay City and Midland also gave them a call recently."

1959

  • 1959-6 T&T: "The little assembly at Sherman, Mich., (19 miles N.W. of Cadillac) shall, God willing, have a conference, beginning with a prayer meeting July 11 at 7:30 p.m., July 12 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., Lord's Day the 13th, Breaking of Bread at 10, Bible class at 11:15 a.m., ministry at 2:30 and Gospel meeting at 7:30 p.m. The Lord's servants walking in the old paths of assembly principles will be heartily welcomed. The assembly, being small, regrets its inability to provide lodging for all but there are hotels and motels near by. Corr. to F.W. Mehl, Rt. 1, Ellsworth, Mich."
  • 1959-8 AA: "Brethren F.W. Mehl, W. Ferguson, A. Stewart and J. Clarke ministered at the Sherman Conference."

1960's

1960

  • 1960-6 WiS: "Saints here purpose having their Conference again July 9th, and 10th, commencing with Prayer Mtg., Fri. eve., July 8th. Meetings in the Gospel Hall in the village. Correspondence to Chancy O. Spencer, Mesick, Mich."
  • 1960-7 T&T: "The conference will be held, D.V. July 9th at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., July 10th 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., with prayer meeting July 8th at 7:30 p.m."
  • 1960-7 WiS: "Saints here will d.v. convene in conference July 9 and 10. Prayer Meeting Fri. evening July 8th. Corresp. to Chancy O. Spencer, Route 1, Mesick, Michigan. Motels etc. are available near Sherman."
  • 1960-9 WiS: "Saints here had a good and happy time around the Word of God at their recent Conference. The Word was good and seasonable and saints were refreshed. A good representation from the State."

1961

  • 1961-5 T&T: "D.V., we plan to have the Conference this year, June 30, July 1 and 2. Prayer meeting on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday in the afternoon and evening, Lord's Day, 10 a.m., and afternoon and evening. Corr. Chancy Spencer, Mesick, Mich."
  • 1961-5 WiS: "Conference this year will be held D.V. commencing with Prayer at 7:30 p.m. Fri. June 30th, also Sat aft and evening, and all Lord's Day, July 2nd. Breaking of Bread at 10 a.m. Usual order of meetings. Corresp. to Chancy Spencer, R.R.1, Mesick, Mich."
  • 1961-6 WiS: "Annual Conference D.V. July 1st, and 2nd, commencing with Prayer Mtg., Fri. eve. June 30th, at 7:30. Breaking of Bread at 10 a.m. (No meeting Sat. morning). Corresp. Chancy Spencer, R.R.1, Mesick, Mich."
  • 1961-8 WiS: "Saints here had a very encouraging time at their conference over the weekend of the Fourth, it was larger and nice to see a good representation from Sault Ste. Marie, Bay City, Saginaw, Alpena, Jackson, Detroit, Wisconsin etc. Five of the Lord's servants gave suitable ministry. The Assembly is small but has a desire to carry on in the "old paths" of the Word. Brother Mehl is making his home in this district now. We seek to encourage all such in their testimony... pray for our brethren there for their blessing. One lad professed during the conference."
  • 1961-8 WIS: Sault Ste. Marie, Ont: "Brother James Clark was in Port Arthur, Ont., recently. He was also in Sherman and went on to Detroit."

1964

  • 1964-6 T&T: "The Sherman Assembly expect to hold their conference, D.V. July 3, 4, and 5. The prayer meeting is on the 3rd and the usual meetings on Saturday and Lord's day. Corr. Chancy Spencer, Mesick, Mich."
  • 1964-6&7 WiS: "Conf. dates July 4 and 5, with Prayer Mtg., Fri. evening, July 3rd. Corres. to Chancy Spencer, R.R.2., Mesick, Mich."
  • 1964-10 WiS: "On the way back from Upper Michigan, Wm. Ferguson gave a call here to visit the small assembly, they appreciate the Word. Mrs. Mehl is not too well, and Bro. Mehl is held here mostly with her care."

1965

  • 1965-6 T&T: "D.V., the annual conference will be held July 3rd and 4th with prayer meeting July 2nd at 7:30 p.m. Corr. F.W. Mehl or Chancy Spencer, Mesick, Mich., U.S.A."

1966

  • 1966-6 T&T: "We expect, D.V., our Conference to begin with a prayer meeting Friday, July 1, with regular schedule of meetings through Sat., and Sun., July 2nd and 3rd. Those wishing prior reservations please contact Mr. F.W. Mehl, Route No. 7, Ellsworth, Mich. (Corr. Chancey Spencer, Mesick, Mich.)"
  • 1966-6 WiS: "Saints here will hold their Conference again commencing with Prayer Mtg., Fri. July 1, with a regular schedule of meetings through Sat. and Lord's Day, July 2 and 3. Request for accommodations may be directed to the Correspondent Chancy Spencer, Mesick, Mich., or to F.W. Mehl, Rt. 1, Ellsworth."
  • 1966-8 WiS: "The Lord gave a good weekend over the 4th, a nice number of Christians came together from Michigan, mostly, a few from Ontario and four of the Lord's servants gave helpful words, ministry practical and simple."

1967

  • 1967-8 WiS: "The small Conference here recently was a season of cheer to the few believers. Four of the Lord's servants gave help and saints went away cheered we believe."

1969

  • 1969-6 WiS: "Saints here will have their Conference again this year commencing with Prayer Meeting Fri. July 4 at 7:30 p.m. continuing over Sat. and Lord's Day July 5 and 6. Corr. Chancy Spencer, Route 1, Mesick, Mich. 49668. Write him or F.W. Mehl as to lodging."
  • 1969-7 WiS: "We just mention the conf. dates for this assembly again, July 4th, Prayer Meeting, and over the 5th and 6th, July. See last month's issue."
  • 1969-9 WiS: "After the Conference here local brethren carried on in the Gospel and the Lord seems to have given them some cheer in a few younger ones professing. Bro. Mick also gave some help while there and brother Wickert also was with them at the Conference. The latter also visited Saginaw, Ferndale, and Clyde, Ohio, ere going back to his labors in Florida amongst the Spanish."
  • 1969-11 WiS: "Saints here were cheered by God working amongst them of late. Four were received, after baptism, into fellowship. Bro. Mehl and local brethren carried on in the Gospel after their Conference."

1970's

1970

  • 1970-6 T&T: "The conference will be held, Lord willing, July 4 and 5 with a prayer meeting, Friday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. Corr. Chancy Spencer.
  • 1970-6 WiS: "The Christians here expect to have their usual conference commencing with Prayer Mtg., July 3 at 7:30 p.m. with usual order of meetings July 4 and 5. Corr. Chancy Spencer, Rt. 1, Mesick, Michigan 49668 or brother Mehl."
  • 1972-10 WiS: Tent Work, Etc.: "The tent meetings of brethren E. Moore (Chile) and John Slabaugh in CASS CITY were good, with a little blessing; this is the old Ubly Assembly, an old field well known to us.... In SHERMAN, MICH., in the Hall there bre. Crawford and Lavery had a few weeks, not many outsiders reported at the meetings. Interest fair."

1975

  • 1975-7 WiS: "Annual Conference July 5th and 6th, D.V. commencing with Prayer Fri. July 4 at 7:30 p.m. Corres. Chancy Spencer, Rt. 1, Mesick, Mich. 49668."

1977

  • 1977-3 T&T: "Bill Lavery had a week of ministry meetings, which the local saints were a help and spiritual uplift."
  • 1977-10 T&T: "John Norris has visited Jackson, Sherman and Ceresco for ministry."
  • 1977-10 WiS: "Recent Conference had the help of three of the Lord's servants, and brother Mehl not being able for it this year."

1978

  • 1978-7 T&T: "The annual conference will not be held this year but a hearty invitation to visit the assembly is given to those who pass through or vacation in the area."

1980's

1981

  • 1981-3 T&T: "During January, William Lavery had a week of appreciated ministry meetings."

1983

  • 1983-9 T&T: "Louis Smith of Jackson, helped by his son Matthew, began gospel meetings in a tent at Mesick, near Sherman, on July 27. They are having children's meetings each morning."

1984

  • 1984-6 T&T: "The saints enjoyed one week of ministry by William Lavery on 1 Thessalonians."

1986

  • 1986-2 T&T: Saginaw, MI: "At the December all day meeting, the saints appreciated encouraging ministry from John Slabaugh and William Metcalf. The following week, Lloyd Ballhagen gave appreciated ministry. While in Michigan, Bro. Ballhagen also visited Ferndale, Williamston and Sherman."

1987

  • 1987-1 WiS: 4901 North 11 3/4 Road, Mesick, MI. Lord's Day - Breaking of Bread, 10:00; Sunday School and Bible Class, 11:15; Gospel, 7:00. Wednesday Prayer and Bible Study, 7:00. Corr. Chancy A. Spencer.
  • 1987-11 T&T: "On Oct. 11, Larry Perkins and L. Smith (Jackson, MI) started a gospel series. Bro. Perkins continues his pioneer work in the Alpena district."
  • 1987-12 T&T: "Larry Perkins and Louis Smith (Jackson, MI) are preaching the gospel four nights a week with a steady interest."

1989

  • 1989-6 T&T: "In April, James Clark paid an appreciated visit."

1990's

1990

  • 1990-2 T&T: "William Lavery expected to give a week of ministry in January."

1992

  • 1992-5 T&T:
    • Sault Ste. Marie, ON: "John Norris has given appreciated help here as well as in Sherman recently."
    • Sherman, MI: "Larry Perkins and Stuart Thompson are preaching the gospel with a number of strangers attending the meetings."
  • 1992-11 T&T: "John Slabaugh and Larry Perkins had gospel meetings with blessing in salvation, and the interest continues."

1993

  • 1993-6 T&T: "In Sherman, John Norris paid an appreciated visit in April."
  • 1993-7 T&T: "Prayer in requested for gospel meetings which John Slabaugh and Stuart Thompson plan to commence in the hall on Aug. 8."
  • 1993-10 T&T: "On Aug. 29, John Slabaugh and Stuart Thompson closed a gospel series with three souls professing faith in Christ."

1994

  • 1994-7 T&T: "The saints enjoyed a visit by John Norris for a weekend and a few nights of ministry."
  • 1994-10 T&T: "John Slabaugh and Stuart Thompson finished their gospel meetings in mid-August. The believers were encouraged when God saved some for whom prayer had been long made."

1995

  • 1995-1 T&T: "Stuart Thompson held a week of well attended children's meetings. Additions to the assembly within the past two years have greatly cheered the saints. Larry Perkins visited them recently."
  • 1995-4 T&T: "On Feb. 19, John Slabaugh and Stuart Thompson commenced two weeks of very helpful Bible readings on the things which are most surely believed amongst us. God has blessed the assembly in recent months."
  • 1995-5 T&T: "John Norris has given appreciated help here, as well as in the two assemblies in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Michigan."
  • 1995-8 T&T: "The saints enjoyed a visit by Norman Crawford in June."
  • 1995-9 T&T: "The assembly has seen a good increase in their numbers in the past two years. Stuart Thompson was encouraged with the good attendance of children at a special effort in June."
  • 1995-11 T&T: "Stuart Thompson and Peter Orasuk saw good numbers of people coming to three weeks of gospel meetings that closed on October 6. The assembly is encouraged by these new contacts."
