History

Assemblée chrétienne du Centre-Sud de Montréal is a bilingual (French & English) open brethren assembly founded in 1979 that is located in Montréal, Southcentral Québec, Canada.

This assembly, begun in 1979, might conceivably lay claim to having descended, if not in fact at least in spirit, from the second oldest francophone assembly in Québec. The latter began in Montréal in 1940 as a result of the joint ministry of John Spreeman and Noah Gratton. By 1968, it was known as the Assemblée française de Rosemont. Shortly after the homecall in 1970 of long-time member and correspondent, Roland Labonté, the assembly disbanded.

A new assembly effort, composed in part from former members of the above-mentioned assembly, got underway in 1979 under the leadership of Vincent Davey and others, meeting first at Dorchester Street in Point-aux-Trembles on the eastern end of Montréal island. From there it relocated to DeLorimier Avenue, making two more moves before taking up residence on Rachel Street near downtown Montréal where it remained for many years. In 1982, it assumed its current name. Never owning its own facilities, it continued to move several times until its latest location on 42^nd Avenue in Montréal. It is currently the only francophone assembly functioning on the island of Montréal where once there were nine.

Commended worker Gérald Boisvert with his wife Marilyn have been actively engaged in the work here for many years. The assembly earlier profited from the presence and ministry of Gaston Racine and his wife in their latter years until their passing, he in 2006 and she a decade later.
