The assembly in Charles City is an exclusive meeting in Iowa that started in 1870 when Thomas D. and Frances Darby moved there from Cortland, New York, to a farm when their son Lucius was eight months old. All eleven of their children lived at this farm as did certain laborers including Will Haig. The farm was later owned by Thomas' son Mervin and his wife Olive, and farmed by John & Jeanne Scheidecker.

Later meetings were in the home of Mrs. Jessie Wamsley in Clarksville, then in the home of Carlyle & Ruth Miller for several years until a schoolhouse was rented where Mervin & Olive Darby lived. Then the schoolhouse was purchased and moved to a later location with rental of the acreage on a 99 year lease. It is presently located in Charles City. It is of the G-A EB.
