There was an Exclusive Brethren meeting at 15 Ninth Street (near Market) in San Francisco in 1879.  The correspondent was J.J. Wallace, of 108 Leidesdorff St., which is the same address as Alexander W.H. McEwen was listed as living at, who was correspondent for the assembly at Hunt's Seminary EB Hall, CA, for a business called "University Publishing Co., that printed textbooks.

It may be a police officer named John J. Wallace, born 1840 in Ireland, married to Bridget Fitzgerald.
