Cerqueira family

From their ACM profile: Carlos was used of the Lord to plant the first New Testament assembly in Luanda, Angola (c. 1967). Missionaries representing several assemblies commended Carlos and Margarida to the service of the Lord in Angola. Carlos and Margarida worked in the assembly of Luanda full-time until 1975 when they left with their 3 sons. In 1976, in the United States, with T. Ernest Wilson's recommendation, the Lord used Carlos to plant a new assembly in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for the Portuguese-speaking.

Carlos and Margarida were commended by assemblies in Warwick (RI), Groton (CT), Attleboro (MA), Swansea (MA), and the old Pawtucket Gospel Hall. Since then, Carlos has served full-time among Portuguese-speaking assemblies in the Northeast. Carlos started and maintained a radio and television evangelistic ministry for many years. Desiring to be more efficient in testimony and ministry, Carlos acquired a number of degrees, including a theological doctorate. He is most gifted in teaching of the Word.

James' memorial was held at Rochambeau Gospel Chapel in Providence, and officiated by W. Herbert Marshall of the Gospel Hall in Boston, and Arthur O. Stebbings of Attleboro. Pallbearers were Willard Fisher, William Horner, James Kee, Charles McLachlan, George McLachlan, Samuel Sproul, Alexander Wright & James Thorpe.

Hunter family

L&L 1944-4: Alexander Hunter, 54, of the Good News Chapel, Kearny, N.J., went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 10, 1944. Stricken with a heart attack 7 weeks previously, was rushed to hospital where he suffered much, but bore a wonderful testimony. Was saved 34 years ago in Pawtucket, R.I. Gospel Hall where he was in happy fellowship 14 years. Was 4 years [1924-1928] in Cliff St. Gospel Hall, Boston, Mass., and 15 years [1928-1943] in Bethany Chapel, Brooklyn, N.Y. Leaves a wife and 4 young children, all of whom need our prayers."

John Peter Zine (1930-2008 Hartford, CT), son of Peter Andrew Zine (b. 1892 Vishnevka, Russia - d. 1975 Hartford, CT) & Julia W. Zine (b. 1899 Ukraine - d. 1981 Hartford, CT). Roberta was an active member of Manchester Bible Chapel of Connecticut, and had resided in East Hartford 1956-1999. John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and active for most of his life with Prospect Gospel Chapel in Hartford, as was his mother, before he transferred to Manchester Bible Chapel. He was employed as a mechanical engineer with IBM for 35 years, and after retiring he volunteer taught computer classes at the East Hartford Senior Center. From +1940-1950+, Peter Zine worked as an assembler for Underwood Typewriter, on Capitol Ave., in Hartford.

Moore family

L&L 1944-2: John Moore, of the Pawtucket Assembly, departed to be with the Lord on Jan. 10 after a brief illness. Born 77 years ago in the North of Ireland. Born again 51 years ago [1893?] in Howood, Renfrewshire, Scotland. A true shepherd who had a natural care for the people of God and will be sorely missed. 2 Tim. 2:24 was well reflected in Bro. Moore's life and testimony both in the home assembly and work shop and to all who knew him, namely, "The servant of the Lord must not strive but be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient." May the Lord raise up more such as he. John Dickson and W.H. Hunter spoke seasonable words to a large company gathered in his home. His wife preceded him to the Homeland some years ago. Two daughters and four sons are left to mourn."

David was a WWI Navy veteran (1917-1919) with Co. G of the 23rd Infantry, returning from service on the Virginian. In 1940, he was managing a grocery store in Lincoln.

Husband: Paul Gordon Bowser (b. 1926 Lincoln, R.I. - d. 2008 Cocoa, FL), son of Dudley Robert Bowser (b. 1885 Dorchester, NB - d. 1974 Lowell, MA) & Elizabeth "Lila" McKaig Bowser (b. 1884 Northbridge, MA - d. 1976 Lowell, MA). Paul served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years from 1944-1968, serving on a variety of submarines.
    • John Moore (b. 1901 Scot. - d. 1951). Wife: Jessie Angell Derry-Moore (b. 1896 Worcester, MA - d. 1951 Attleboro, MA), daughter of Benoni Arnold Angell (1858-1937) & Rose Belle Clark Angell (1864-1926). Jessie was a member of Park Place Congregational of Pawtucket, her memorial was officiated by Carl Archibald Glover (1891-1958).
      • Pfc. Richmond Earl Derry (b. 1925 Providence, R.I. - d. 1944 France). Richmond was KIA on Oct. 29, 1944 with the infantry during WWII.
    • William Moore (b. 1904 Lincoln, R.I. - d. 1962 Pawtucket, R.I.). Wife (1927): Grace Wild Moore (b. 1902 Ashton, Providence, R.I. - d. 1970 Cumberland, Providence, R.I.), daughter of John Wild (1877-1951 R.I.) & Jane Ann Brooks Wild (b. 1876 Blackburn, Lancashire, Eng. - d. 1929 Cumberland, R.I.).

Sproul family

L&L 1944-2: Matthew Sproul, of Pawtucket, R.I., age 57, after a prolonged illness, peacefully passed away on Dec. 30 to see the One he loved. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn. Up to the last he had words of cheer for all who came in contact with him; but, in the will of God, the living voice is silent, but words spoken will live on."

L&L 1944-3: Matthew Sproul passed away Dec. 28, 1943, after an illness of 14 years. He was connected with the Pawtucket, R.I. Assembly for 35 years. He was saved in Paisley, Scotland through the preaching of a James Hamilton. He was a man who loved and spoke often of his Redeemer. He loved his Bible and stood for "The Truth".

  • Matthew Sproul 1907-1943 (b. 1887 Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scot. - d. 1943 Pawtucket, R.I.), son of John Sproul (b. 1845 Paisley, Scot.) & Mary McInnes Sproul (b. 1846 Paisley, Scot.). John was employed as a warehouseman for Johnstone Cotton Mill on Collier St., and later a dyer. In 1920 he owned a shoemaking shop in Pawtucket.
  • Mary McBride Sproul 1907-1943+ (b. 1889 Scot. - d. 1949 Providence, R.I.), daughter of Samuel McBride (b. 1863 Co. Antrim, N.I. - d. 1939 Queens, NYC, NY) & Elizabeth Millar McBride (b. 1864 Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire, Scot. - d. 1932).
    • John Sproul 1911-1929+ (b. 1911 Central Falls, R.I. - d. 1985 North Providence, R.I.). He worked for the Bro Cab Co. in Pawtucket for more than 25 years before retiring, and was appointed to the Fox Point Soccer Association Hall of Fame in 1978. Wife: Adrienne Merow Sproul (b. 1916 R.I. - d. 1992 Central Falls, R.I.).
    • Samuel McBride Sproul 1913-1981 (b. 1913 Central Falls, R.I. - d. 1990). Wife: Elizabeth Mae MacDonald Sproul (1906-1970). 2nd wife: Hazel Sproul +1981. See Visiting Ministry for a story from 1954 about Samuel's children's outreach.
    • Elizabeth Miller Sproul Robinson 1916-1934+ (b. 1916 Pawtucket, R.I. - d. 2004 Cumberland, R.I.). Husband: Anthony Stanford Robinson (b. 1917 Providence, R.I. - d. 2000 Lincoln, R.I.)
    • Lt. Col. Matthew Sproul, Jr. 1918-1936+ (b. 1918 Pawtucket, R.I. - d. 2000 Calera, Shelby, AL). Matthew served with the USAF in WWII & Korea. Wife: Zemma Lowery Sproul (b. 1926 Montevallo, Shelby, AL - d. 2019). Matthew was a supporter of Big Oak Ranch, a Christ-centered outreach for damaged children in Springdale, Alabama.
